I have selected the song Givin’ Up For Now from the list of songs we could choose from. Some of the major changes that I have made to the song are the addition of a bass, a jazz brush kit, and a saxophone. In this paper, I will be explaining why I added the instruments that I have. I will give an explanation for the timing of the instruments. I will also be explaining why I left some of the original elements within the song.
The first instrument that was added to the mix was the jazz brush kit. The reason this particular drum kit was added verse a regular kit was for its timbre and simplicity. The spatial layout of this song was created for one purpose, to simple support and elevate the vocals. To start with of course the vocals are front and center in the layout. What I have done to the vocals is move them up closer to the listener. I did this because the vocals are in a way more personal and I felt that this makes more since. The vocals are also in the center panned to both sides. Just behind the vocals I have placed the acoustic guitar and the electric guitar. I have also placed them both close to the listener. I have done this because the role that they both play in this song is less of a rhythmic or place holder type and more of a vocal like supporting role. They are both are panned to their own sides but I have allowed them to switch sides, just to add some interesting effects. Just behind the guitars I have the jazz kit with brushes. The reason for this was to keep the heartbeat of the song in the middle of the mix. Plus, I wanted to put the saxophone and acoustic bass at the very back, for they are used the most at the end of the song and I was looking for it to quieter and slowly
