Children who are poorly nourished suffer up to 160 days of illness each year. Poor nutrition plays a role in at least half of the 10.9 million child deaths each year--five million deaths. So why not be a better human being and give help where we can, stop the deaths of innocent children who are the most vulnerable when people lack essentials like food, water, sanitation, health care and who die of starvation, give them aid and the means to lift themselves out of the poverty in which they have always known.
The poor lack the money to buy enough food to nourish themselves. Being constantly malnourished, they become weaker and often sick. This makes them increasingly less able to work, which then makes them even poorer and hungrier. This downward spiral often continues until death for them and their families.
When international aid is spent effectively, it can make a real difference to the lives of millions of children. Since 2002, aid has helped: forty million children go to school in Africa, ensure around 4 million fewer children under five will die this year compared to 1990, rebuild countries, such as Sierra Leone, following civil war.
