Giving Birth At Home Summary
Your article was very intersting you did a great job paraphrasing it. I think women that can give birth at home are truly amazing. To me the thought of giving birth would be terrafing I guess I would be more comfortable knowing that I'm in a hospital and if something went really bad I would feel more safe there but thats just me.

Internal fetal monitoring is accomplished with a fetal scalp electrode that is a direct electrocardiogram of the FHR and therefore produces the most accurate FHR tracing having an advantage over the external monitoring. The FSE is attached to the fetus during a vaginal exam and then connected to a fetal monitor. Because the risk of transmission to the fetus is increased by the small puncture in the fetal scalp, use of internal scalp electrodes should be avoided if at all possible in the presence of known maternal infections such as HIV, hepatitis or GBS. Fetal scalp monitors are also avoided in preterm infants because of the increased risk of ventricular hemorrhage.…

Increasingly women are moving away from the traditional, unnatural child birthing option of hospital births, and embracing other options. This lead me to wonder what types of women are rejecting their parents ways of welcoming children into the world, and exploring alternative options that better suit their family. Homebirths, water births, doulas, and midwives are just a few of the options aside from a drug enduced hospital birth. Similarities and differences between these two groups of women have been identified, but overall, women just want their children to come into a safe, happy environment.…

Alexander Tsiaras did an amazing video “From Conception to Birth” illustrating how an embryo develops into a child. Having gone through the process twice myself, reading through the prenatal chapter in “Child and Adolescent Development”, and then seeing it played out on screen was a unique perspective. The visualization of the fetus at 25 days with a heart chamber, 32 days with arms and hands developing, 36 days with the beginning of the vertebrae and 52 days with retina, nose and fingers, was eye opening to say the least. During, Tsiaras’ creation of the 3 dimensional modeling, of the expulsion and delivery stage and how the infant has to maneuver to be born, I was comparing it to how a bird is hatched from an egg. It is not a situation…

Traditionally, childbirth has emphasized the joy of bringing a new life into the world. However, with the McDonaldization of healthcare, childbirth seems to be more about standardization over nature. Hospitals have begun to copy procedural ideas of major corporations and childbirth has begun to be centred on efficiency, predictability and control.…

“Fatumata, where are you, I took a deep breath and crossed the threshold, the tin door wobbling as I shut it behind me. I felt as if I was drowning in the smell of fresh, body fluids, and leftover food”(Holloway, 7). In her book Kris Holloway talks about in Malia, despite the oppressive heat, women found a rare taste of money of privacy in an otherwise common world. In fact, the birthing house was one of the few hallowed grounds where men were not allowed to tread. People do not realize women in America have the choice of where they wish to experience the birth of their child. They can choose to use a hospital, a birthing center, or a home birth. The women in Mali and in developing countries do not get those choices. They either chose the birthing house with a midwife or they have it a home alone. Choices are something we are blessed with and these women that choice could end up being life or death. A choice that most of the women cannot to…

My name is Kimberly feusi and I interviewd two women who gave birth in different decades, one woman in 1983 and the second women in 2006, both women gave birth in the United States, Sacramento. I’m researching prenatal care, and birthing experiences, to see how times have changed and to see if some things have stayed the same. I interviewd Vickie first she gave birth on the 5th of October 1983 and her experience was different from Ann Marie who gave birth on the 5th of January 2006. Vickie was sixteen at the time of her first birthing experience and she was offered classes to show her how to care for a new baby, she took those classes, but Ann Marie was 16 too at the time of her first birthing experience and not offered any classes for her first birthing experience in 2006, but I looked up some resources…

I would have never thought that there was an actual good reason to just give birth to a child. I suppose if it were certain circumstances where a woman could not have a child and wanted a surrogate mother, that’s a good reason to have another woman give birth to a child. And don’t get me wrong, I love children and I can’t wait to have them but I never thought there would be a good reason besides “I want something cute to hold onto all day.” I do believe there are right and wrong times to have babies though. First and most important, both potential parents WANT to have a baby. I also believe the parents should be financially stable with solid jobs. Sometimes it doesn’t happen that way and the children turn out perfectly fine, but it’s just something I would want before I have children.…
