Global Warming Causes
Global Warming Causes
One of the biggest issues facing us right now is global warming. Its effects on animals and on agriculture are indeed frightening, and the effects on the human population are even scarier. The facts about global warming are often debated in politics and the media, but, unfortunately, even if we disagree about the causes, global warming effects are real, global, and measurable. The causes are mainly from us, the human race, and the effects on us will be severe. Global Warming Cause: Carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuel burning power plants
Our ever increasing addiction to electricity from coal burning power plants releases enormous amounts of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. 40% of U.S. CO2 emissions come from electricity production, and burning coal accounts for 93% of emissions from the electric utility industry. Every day, more electric gadgets flood the market, and without widespread alternative energy sources, we are highly dependent on burning coal for our personal and commercial electrical supply.

Global Warming Cause: Carbon dioxide emissions from burning gasoline for transportation
Our modern car culture and appetite for globally sourced goods is responsible for about 33% of emissions in the U.S. With our population growing at an alarming rate, the demand for more cars and consumer goods means that we are increasing the use of fossil fuels for transportation and manufacturing. Our consumption is outpacing our discoveries of ways to mitigate the effects, with no end in sight to our massive consumer culture.

The seriousness of global warming is evident. “In the 20th century, the world’s average surface temperature rose by… the fastest rate in any period over the last 1,000 years.” (Source A) In the ocean, the surface temperature increased nearly 1.5 degrees Fahrenheit from about 100 years ago. (Source B) It is not only people who are affected by global warming. Nowadays, “each spring, the robins are arriving in Wisconsin several days earlier than they did a decade ago” (Source F) These significant changes to the world has alarmed people and evoked efforts to stop global warming.…

Global warming is currently the most controversial issue. The debate over global warming has been going all around the world and it seems endless. Depending on one's political view, whether a person is a liberal or a conservative may consider global warming as the biggest challenge facing humanity or one may dismiss, saying it is not real or may simply claims global warming is a hoax. However, there are strong, credible evidences that indicate the extreme and unpredictable weather pattern we have been witnessing like extreme heat, drought, storm , retreating glaciers and the melting of the arctic sea ice, and rising sea level due to climate change caused by human activities. Governments and people around the world should hold hand in hand…

Flash floods and hurricanes may wipe out coastal cities. NASA asserts that the quantity and intensity of forest fires will increase, as well as droughts and heat waves. The World Wildlife Fund reports that global warming will directly harm many endangered species. Scores of scientists have been warning the United States government about global warming, yet our current administration refuses to take action. In fact, the leaders of our government are attempting to repeal laws that are in pace to slow the effects of global warming. If nothing is done to save our planet, humans will face…

Burning coal produces massive amounts of carbon dioxide which slowly eats away the protection layer of our Ozone. Coal also contains radioactive material. In Comparison a coal fired power plant emits far more radiation into the air then a Nuclear power plant. I would also like to mention that not just America but the world’s fossil fuels reserves are decreasing dramatically. You would think that over the years and after all the studies that have taken place about the dangers of conventional energy would have forced us to act upon this situation much faster, however in fact over the years the sulfurous coal which many plants use now causes way more pollution than coal used in the past. Most coal contains significant amounts of sulfur. After burning, this changes to sulfur dioxide and then eventually into sulfuric acid. If it is still not removed past a certain stage, burned sulfur is one of the main causes of acid rain (geocities/online). Another disadvantage of using coal as a source of energy is it produces very large quantities of ash that has to be disposed of, which creates a lot of smoke.…

Global warming has always been a problem for humans. In the past 650,000 years, According to NASA, Earth’s average temperature has risen 1.7 degrees fahrenheit since 1880 (Global Climate Change). In fact, January of 2017 has been the third warmest ever recorded. More funding should go into helping global climate change because rising sea levels are dangering the land, there is a major decrease in arctic ice, and rising temperatures are causing more animal species to go on the endangered list.…

Climate change, often referred to as global warming, is a rising issue that has been further developed over recent years. To clarify, the term ‘climate change’ refers to any significant change in the measures of climate lasting for an extended period of time. Such changes include but are not limited to major changes in temperature, precipitation, or wind patterns occurring over several decades or longer. Therefore, the specific term ‘global warming’ is only one aspect of climate change and used when referring to recent and ongoing rise in global average temperature near Earth's surface. This steady rise in temperature is causing significant changes in weather and climate which is alarming because even small changes can create problems in our delicately balanced environment which will lead to challenges in our society. As a human race, we depend on the environment for fresh food, fresh water, and fresh air, so when there are complications with the balance of the environment, there are potential complications to our survival.…

Industrial civilization is driven by fossil fuels such as coal and oil, which are the major contributors to a rise in carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Excess carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere by non-natural sources, even at relatively small amounts, is enough to alter the balancing affect of the carbon cycle. The resulting problem for human populations is rising temperatures around the world or global warming.…

The earth has been around for billions of years and many issues in our time as a species have risen up. One matter that has come up is the issue of global warming or climate change. This conflict has been around for many years, but has started to get worse every year, since the United States and other countries have been emitting carbon dioxide into the earth’s atmosphere. Global warming is an urgent issue; moreover, there exists a controversy on whether humanity or nature is the cause, and the scientists who consider this a serious matter are entirely correct because humans are at fault.…

Currently, fossil fuel usage makes up 86.4% of the world’s primary energy sources, mainly in petroleum (36%), coal (27.4%), and natural gas (23.0%) (US Department of Energy). Though efforts are being made to convert to more environmentally-friendly solutions such as wind, solar, and electrical power, these resources usually are more expensive and less convenient currently. Currently, governing bodies such as the United Nations and EPA are working to develop strategies to curb the issue. Ideas such as geoengineering and using quicklime in oceans to absorb CO2 have been discussed, but the studies are still early, and long-term effects aren’t yet fully known. Another issue would be that large companies and governments may be less willing to get rid of their entire infrastructures and the jobs they provide in favor of less profitable and more expensive methods.…
