In many countries it is the responsibility of a woman to carry out most tasks related to the care and nurturing of the family including cleaning, laundry, food preparation and care of the sick. In more southern countries, it is also the role of women to make an important contribution to their family's food supply, shelter and personal needs. Single women with children do not have many options of producing a significant amount of income to help provide for their families. In this case, many women travel abroad to provide paid service work for other families. The traditional housewife now employs women from third world countries to replace their roles so they can maintain their full time careers. This transfer of labor results in an odd displacement, in which the female energy that flows to wealthy countries is subtracted from poor ones easing the "care" or "love" deficit, while creating more of a deficit in poorer countries. I did not know about all the issues based around domestic workers. I' am very disappointed that there has not been a more aggressive, proactive role around the injustice happenings of these domestic working women. What shocks me the most is that women of first world countries treat these women so poorly when they know from first hand experience what a hard and exhausting job it can be to be a "housewife" with children. Why do these women treat other women like this who are doing nothing but helping them have the ability of pursuing their dreams? Why do they feel the need to pay them such low wages knowing they have families to support back home? What happened to the compassionate, loving women of the world? I grew up with an African American nanny until my senior year in high school. My nanny was respected, loved and paid a premium base salary. It never occurred to me that people could actually treat a human being who provides so much work for a family with not only disrespect but abuse as well. It is very difficult for me to fathom all the uncaring, corrupted minded people of the world. People are money hungry and motivated and will do anything to be considered "upper
