Globalization: The super story is an entry by Thomas Friedman. In the entry he expresses his beliefs about “a system that cannot explain everything but can explain and connect more things in more places on more days than anything else.” This international system is what he calls globalization. He says that this new system has overcome all past systems, it surpassed the old cold war system. This new system is his opinion about the events leading up to 9/11. Friedman starts to talk about how the expansion of markets, corporations, transportation systems, and communication systems will never stop, and will have everyone and everything going across the country faster, deeper, and cheaper than ever before. This than empowers corporations, countries, and individuals. People need to depend on each other, and it will make these things bigger, stronger, and more influential. The old Cold War system had everything chopped up and divided these things so whoever these groups were associated would either thrive or end up being destroyed based on who they were divided from and with. The symbol of the cold war system was the great wall of Berlin. This new globalization system integrated all these different networks and connected them with the World Wide Web. This connected everything and everyone. The web was a system that ensured everyone is connected but no ones in charge. Being connected benefitted the user and in some cases ruined the user. The cold war system dealt with two super states and superpowers controlling one system. This new system is very different of that of the Cold wars by building around the balances in three different ways. Friedman states the first way is creating a traditional balance of power between nation and states, therefore making the United States the only super power and other nations subordinate to it. This ensures that no one would ever be controlling us like for example Iran balancing Iraq. We as a super power don’t have to worry about fights
