Global Warming

Have you ever wondered why there have been warmer winters, longer falls, or shorter springs in recent years? Well have you ever thought about what the reason behind this could be? “Global warming”, yes its global warming that’s started to take over our seasons and if society doesn’t put a stop to it who knows what the world to look like in another decade or so. There are many other issues that are caused by global warming but they are also easily preventable, people just have to try. Global warming is not a problem that society should look over and ignore; it’s an issue that requires immediate attention. Global warming isn’t starting by itself, its what we as humans do that’s causing it to occur.

Firstly, there are many causes to global warming and they are split up into two kinds, man-made causes and natural causes. Natural causes are created naturally by nature. One natural cause is the release of methane gas from the Arctic and wetlands. Methane gas is a type of greenhouse gas that traps heat inside the atmosphere. Man- made causes do the most damage to earth. One of the common man made causes is pollution. One of the ways humans cause pollution is through the burning of fossil fuels, including the burning of coal and oil. The burning of fossil fuels gives off CO2 gas. CO2 gas is one of the reasons why there has been an increase in global temperatures. The amount of CO2 today is the highest it has ever been in the past 1000 years. In autumn the levels of CO2 in the atmosphere rise and in the spring the levels fall, causing temperatures to alternate. There is a direct relationship between the levels of CO2 in the atmosphere and global temperatures: when the level of CO2 is high the temperatures rise. Another cause of global warming is the increase in population. Right now the world population has reached 7 billion people. The more people living on earth means more production of food and more methods of transportation. People nowadays don’t look to public transportation or carpooling, they usually have there own means of transportation. Which means that more people use their own cars to reach somewhere whether it’s close enough to get there by foot or not. More people mean more cars, and more cars means more pollution. The causes of global warming are also resulting in many other issues.

Secondly global warming is resulting in many other issues that are easily preventable. One of the things that is resulting from global warming is the rising of sea levels. As the temperatures rise more ice in places like the Arctic and Antarctica will melt. It has been said in the next little while the sea levels will rise by 20ft. Places like Richmond and Vancouver Island will completely be covered with water! If ice in places like the Arctic, melts species living there will have no home. If more and more species lose their habitats it will cause them to become extinct. This also has an effect on the migration cycle because of the rising temperatures. Animals that usually head south in the winter won’t know where to go because of the changes in the weather. Another thing that is happening while the effect of global warming increases is the atmosphere thickening. The atmosphere used to be a thin layer surrounding the earth and protecting it from UV rays. Plus it was thin enough for CO2 gas emissions to leave earth’s surface. However, as the discharge of pollution increases, the atmosphere gets thicker. This means harmful gases don’t leave the earth’s surface as fast as they did before. These are all preventable issues and if humans join together they can put a stop to this and protect mother earth.

There are many things humans can do to stop the effects of global warming. Usually politicians and humans just look over the effects of global warming and think it’s not a big problem and that it’ll stop itself. But people know that’s not true global warming is an issue that we as humans have to put a stop to. There are many ways we can solve these problems, one of the solutions to this is to reduce the amount of pollution we emit into the atmosphere. We can solve this problem by carpooling when going to the same place as others. Also, people can walk to places nearby instead of using cars. Another resource that always is possible to look onto is public transportation. This is not the only solution to the effect of global warming, we can also plant trees. Planting trees can reduce the amount of CO2 in the air because the trees take in CO2 and give out oxygen. Another thing that is possible is the government destroying economy to protect the environment. Instead of putting money into the economy the government can put that money in the environment to save it. Sure the economy will suffer for a while but in the end it’s all worth it. The economy being damaged is a temporary issue and the earth being damaged is a permanent issue, once it’s fully damaged we can do anything, but it won’t be the same as it was before. Humans hold the power of stopping global warming, once society joins together its just a matter of time.

Ultimately, global warming is an issue caused by humans, and only humans can simply put a stop to it but the results of global warming are huge. So if humans want to save the planet global civilization lives on, people have to act fast and do anything that is possible to save it. To protect the planet mankind has to sacrifice some important factors of everyday life: including putting the economy at risk. Think about it would you rather have a stable economy or proper environment to live in? The economy can always go back to its original state but once humans ruin earth’s atmosphere completely it can never go back to its previous position. Global warming not too big of a problem that we as humans can’t solve. Nothing is impossible, no problem is too big to solve, one person can make a difference its just a matter of trying.
