Glucose Challenge Lab Report
Glucose challenge was conducted through intravenous application of 50% glucose (0.3 g/kg of body weight) in 1 min periods in the antecubital vein. The clock was restarted at the beginning of glucose application. Samples used for measuring insulin and c-peptides were taken precisely in +2 min, +4 min, +6 min and +8 min after initiation of glucose administration. Samples for measuring glycemia were taken in +2 min, +4 min, +6 min and +8 min. Upon completed sampling, insulin infusion was stopped, while glucose infusion was continued, with gradually reduced speed and giving food to subject, accompanied by monitoring of glycemia. Glycemia had to be higher than 5 mmol/l, and stable for 30 min upon completing glucose infusion. Acute insulin response (AIR) level was calculated, which is actually average increase of insulinemia relative to basal value in the first 8 min of IVGTT, with the following equation: …show more content…
AIR= ((insulinemia u +2 min (mU/L)-insulinemia u 0 min (mU/l))+ (insulinemia u +4 min (mU/L)-insulinemia u 0 min (mU/l))+ (insulinemia u +6 min (mU/L)-insulinemia u 0 min (mU/l))+ ((insulinemia u +8 min (mU/L)-insulinemia u 0 min (mU/l))/4

First phase of insulins response (FPIR) is calculated using following equation:

FPIR= insulinemia u +2 min (mU/l) + insulinemia u +4 min

    Diabetes mellitus is a condition created by the inadequate secretion of insulin from the pancreas. Insulin is a hormone that allows your body to use carbohydrates or store them for future use. Inadequate amounts of insulin causes a condition called hyperglycemia, which is an excessive amount of glucose in the blood stream. When the blood is filtered through the kidney, a large of amount of glucose is retained in the filtrate and a large amount of it cannot be reabsorbed and is excreted out as urine. The large amount of glucose within the filtrate changes the osmotic pressure within the nephron, which reduces the amount of water that is reabsorbed back into the bloodstream. The sample with diabetes mellitus should hypothetically result in the sample of urine turning orange after 10 drops of Benedict’s Solution was added and the sample was heated. The sample turning orange after the Benedict’s Test was done on the sample would mean that the sample tested positive for…

    This blood test done after every 3 months helps to determine how good patient is controlling his or her blood sugar levels( prevention research group, 2002) it has come to clear conclusion that new evidence based research is using AIC tests as a laboratory tool for diagnosing the patient with diabetes. ADAG uses mathematical equation that may be used in converting the AIC test results to estimated average glucose and they were successful in coming up with the ideas. This study of using AIC result could be expressed as an estimated average glucose using the mathematical equation. Based on ADAG current research, they come up with the ideas of comparing the AIC values for each patient, together with daily glucose reading for two days and in four times a day (Nathan, M. et al. (2008)…

    Andrew Carnegie is a perfect example of someone who worked for everything he had. He built his fame, fortune, and respectable reputation, from the ground up. He did so by his very successful steel business that literally blew other competitors out of the industry. However, many will argue that Carnegie was a “Robber Barron” because of his smart risky actions that include buying out everything that was needed for the industry which lead to a monopoly in the steel industry. Andrew Carnegie worked from being a migrant immigrant to a very successful man. This shows pure dedication to one’s occupation. Andrew Carnegie was a captain of industry because he believed that no man should die a rich man and followed the philosophy of philanthropy. With this belief, he plowed his wealth back into society by building public libraries, donating to collages, forming the Carnegie Endowment for International peace, and much more. Carnegie was the richest man alive at one point and gave 90 percent of his wealth away. There is not a single argument that can credibly prove Andrew Carnegie as a Robber Barron.…

    Test is also used to diagnose the presence of gestational diabetes and type 2 diabetes. With IGTT, glucose is injected into your vein for 3 minutes. Blood insulin levels are measured before the injection, and again at 1 and 3 minutes after the injection. The timing may vary. The oral glucose tolerance test is used to screen for, or diagnose diabetes in people with a fasting blood glucose level that is high, but is not high enough (above 125 mg/ld.) to meet the diagnosis for diabetes. You give someone a large amount of sugar when they have not eaten for a while and then examine how their body responds to the sugar by watching the glucose levels in the blood. If they stay high majority of the time, the person most likely has diabetes.…

In order to better understanding of digestion and absorption of glucose in the ruminants, they did a lot of experiments on three kinds of ruminate, cow, calf and sheep. Determining from different aspects such as mRNA expression, protein expression and enzyme activity, hormone content, glucose intake and histological examination. After RNA extraction, the PCR application, gel purified and ligated with pGEM-T Easy vector, they successfully cloned and sequenced the taste receptors from ovine tongue and intestine tissues.…

Mrs. Jones is what people call a “black woman that made it”. She is humble, being that she is not very flashy, and she is always willing to give back, considering that she cleaned and fed, Roger, a young man that tried to rob her. Langston Hughes, in Thank You Ma’am, shows Jones’ woman qualities through her mother-like qualities, willingness to give back to the less fortunate, and ability to understand.…
