Goals in Life
Goals in Life

I firmly believe that if one plans on being a successful person in society, setting goals is a very important step. Having goals not only gives you a clear focus on things, it also helps you to organize your plans by allowing you to give yourself time limits and boundaries. Athletics are very fun, and may help count towards a goal in life. Sports may be fun, but you need hard work to become good at it. There is a chance that one day I may be able to get a scholarship for college. Sports take up time, and at some points are hard and may be a burden, but it is all worth it in the end. Becoming a better athlete is a goal of mine, but there are goals more important and the next one is. In only having sports and not education it would be like owning a car, but with out an engine inside. I want that engine; therefore I must get my education and maintain a high GPA. I could accomplish this by doing all my work. Also not only doing my work, but on time and as neat as I can get it. One goal that I work hard at daily is to try to do well in high school. I try to involve myself in any activity that I can, both academically and socially, so that I can graduate with honors. The reason why I do this is because I plan on going to college, and I would like to be able to get accepted into any school that I apply to. Immediately after I graduate, I want to start my career as an architect. In order to achieve my goal I will have to paying attention in class, and try to do more listening and less talking. All of this makes a great recipe for at least a 3.0 GPA. Right now, I am trying to maintain the best GPA because my parents always want the best from me. Lately it has started getting harder and harder to do because some of the teachers I have are very stubborn and they are making my life very difficult. For example, the teachers would give me a low grade for a project, and when I revised it, they would only add two points to my grade. That really annoys me even if the teachers are trying to encourage me to do better. I still feel like my efforts are pointless. Besides that, I have to juggle homework; I also have to find some time to hang out with my friends and family. Even though it’s really difficult for me, I somehow always find a way to get all my things done. It’s a relief when that happens and I can get them out of the way, but it’s overwhelming when I have new things to deal with. I guess I shouldn’t complain too much because all this pressure I am under is for a good reason and it is supposed to encourage me to strive harder and surpass my limits, but even if that is so, it is still very nerve-racking. Hopefully I will overcome all this stress and meet these goals so that it won’t be something I have to worry about anymore.

College is something that is very important to me. College Education is most important because its knowledge that can never be taken away from you and you will always have your college education to fall back on. First of all, the value of a college education can be taken in all different kinds of aspects. When enrolling in school I look at it like this is my pride and glory and no one can take this from me. You can lose all your fame and fortune but if you have a college education it remains the same. In my prospective college education is valued. College is a goal of mine that I'm going to achieve. With my Bachelor in Architecture I plan on working to own my own firm somewhere in the world. When attending college you have to truly be a level headed person and stay on track to get good grades. Education is the most important asset that you can have or achieve. Being that college has its many expenses I look at it like I am buying a house. You have to be positive when looking at what all you have to put in when attending school. College very much itself has to be valued. You have to put a lot of your work and long hours when working on a degree. Going to school is not easy as it seems. Good study habits are one main factor when valuing college. The importance of a college education is sometimes based on the society that we grow up in. Students look at what they have been through and try to do much better when they get a chance. When financial aid and grants keep in that's when I believe the students just at least try to make a descent grade to get by. When hard working people have to take out loans and make payment plans for there education that's when they strive to do there best. This is why college education is so important to me.

Another goal I have in life is to have a family one day. I would like to have a wife and children that I can support and teach how to become a man in society. For some people, the term family means having a mother, father, and siblings who would take care of them through thick and thin. For others a family is a group of friends whom they can share their life with. Regardless of who comprises the family, it is still connected as people whom we can stand by no matter what happens. Through the years, I have observed that the concept of family has changed. Years ago, the parents and the children have this certain bond that stays until the children have their own families. Nowadays, independence is practiced, with the children leaving the house of their parents at the legal age of eighteen. Families all have very well bonds, and that’s what I hope for one day too with mine. I want to teach them how to live in an independent society, living a life away from their families and the life they used to live. This is an important thing because family is what supports the person when they leave to go off to college or just live on their own. Family is your support group, so that is why one goal of mine is to have a family one day.

The Puritans were one of the most radical groups that left England; they were extremely pious and wanted to create a safe haven for themselves to be able to practice their religion, beliefs, and ideals freely. Puritans main reason for immigrating to America was to create their "City Upon a Hill" , since they were persecuted in England for their beliefs, and because they wanted to reform the Anglican church. They didn´t immigrate for economical reasons, like many of their brethren did in the Chesapeake Bay colonies. Puritans instead wanted to create their model Christian society based on the principals of high morality, and strong family and community lives. Puritan society was based on certain morals and principals which enabled the Puritans to successfully establish a colony; these same morals and principals had a profound impact on the New England colonies in a similar way as well.…

Life for me has been very interesting. I started off in the nursing field as a nursing assistant and patient care tech at 19 working my way through school both full-time and part-time until I finally graduated from Virginia State University with my Associate’s of Science Degree in Nursing. After accomplishing that goal I have reached somewhat of a plateau in my life I have so many short and long-term goals I want to accomplish both professionally and personally. Some of professional goals are, becoming a supervisor at my current job, obtaining my Advance Life Support Certification, obtaining my Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, enlisting into the Navy Nurse Corps, becoming a Nurse Practitioner, and eventually one day becoming an Administrator of an Acute Care Facility. As well as having professional goals in life you should have personal goals. My short and long term-personal goals are; relocating to Chicago, Illinois, getting married, and having children. The typical American Dream. These goals are not far from my reach with self motivation and perseverance all of these goals can be accomplished.…

There exists this pressure on my generation that we must have our entire lives already planned out to a T. Even as a fifth grader, I remember a prompt on a state test asking “Describe your lifetime goals and how you will achieve them.” This question is asked throughout our lives in different variations but the point remains the same. What are you going to do with your life? Asking me this prompt throughout my years in high school would have given you 4 completely different answers. Just a couple months ago I would have given you a different answer than I would have now and I’m sure a similar story can be said for almost any student. Lifetime goals evolve as we mature and grow throughout life, and my high school career reflects these changes.…
