Ares “God of War”
Ares is the Greek god of war. He is the Son of Zeus and Hera the king and queen of the gods. Hephaestus and Ares were the only 2 Olympians born from both Zeus and Hera. Ares has many children with many different women; one of his most famous affairs was with Aphrodite, Greek goddess of Love and Beauty. They had multiple children but only 3 showed Ares qualities; Deimos “God of dread”, Phobos “god of fear” and Adrestia “goddess of revenge and balance”. All three of these children accompanied Ares to war. His twin sister Eris (goddess of discord) and his daughter Enyo (goddess of War) also accompanied him to battle. In Sparta citizens sacrificed dogs to Enyalios (An epithet for Ares) before going to war. Ares sacred bird is the vulture. In roman myths “Mars” is the son of only Hera, not Zeus; other roman myths suggest he was born from a flower that was touched by Hera. Some say his favorite month is March because that’s when the flowers bloom. March was named in honor of Ares, because his roman name is Mars. Ares was one of the few gods that was portrayed as a very cruel, fierce god, known as a mean, bloodthirsty and fearless in Greek myths, but was represented completely differently in Roman myths. In Roman myths Ares was known as a manly romantic who was full of valor. In Greek art he was shown as either a mature, bearded warrior dressed in battle arms or a nude clean shaved youth with a helm and spear. Ares was the first god to be tried on the hill of Areopagus. Areopagus is the highest council of Greece. He was tried because he was accused of killing Poseidon’s son Alirrothios but he was claimed not guilty, because Alirrothios tried to rape Ares’ daughter Alkippe. Ares was a very unreliable and dangerous god because he was so addicted to bloodshed and violence that he would go out of his

Thucydides, a known historian during the time, described and analyzed the motives of the infamous Peloponnesian War. The war was between two powerful city-states: Athens and Sparta. The conflict arose due to excessive power. The Athenians were optimistic that they were the driving force that led Greece and all of its city-states. Specifically, the historian focuses on the funeral oration presented by Pericles. Pericles, ironically, doesn’t display sorrow but displays comfort and proud of what each individual has contributed to Athens. For Pericles, it wasn’t about the tragic fatalities but about courage and patriotism. “If we do go to war, have no thought that you went to war over a trivial affair” (Thucydides, in Hunt 101). The Peloponnesian War lasted longer than any other pervious war in Greece. The war began in 431 BCE with Sparta’s invasion of Athens. The Athenians sacrificed the destruction of their private property in order to hide in the safety of their city. The Long Walls of Athens protected its citizens and preserved its population. The Spartans however had the upper hand in infantry while the Athenians were superior at sea. With the aid of Persia, Sparta eventually defeats Athens at Syracuse in 404 BCE after a continuous twenty-seven years at war (Hunt 104). The creation of the Delian League, the reign of Pericles, the aggravation of Corinth, and the refusal to negotiate made Athens the sole instigator for the long and violent Peloponnesian War.…

In Ancient Greece, warfare was predominant war of life. Greeces terrain was very mountainous. Because of this there were many city states. There was constant war between these states for territorial expansion, revenge or sometimes just honor. In the early stages of the geek warfare, the Archaic period, training was disorganized and weapons were pretty bad. Although soldiers were paid, they were only paid enough to make them survive the day (enough for food, cloth, etc.). Soldiers didn't have any real uniforms and as soon as the war was over the went back to their farms instead of training more. By the 600 BC, the spartan military was a model for all city states to follow. The Spartans had a well trained, full time army that had organized uniforms. Our story embarks on a hero of a mortal named Kratos. Kratos is a loss soul seeking redemption from the Gods who just doesn't want gods to be in control of mortals. This particular mortal’s name is Kratos, the ghost of Sparta or the god of war. After killing Ares the real god of war, Athena named Kratos the New God of War. But when he was killed by Zeus and sent down to the underworld's river Styx, all his powers were drained. He was then a mortal once again. As Kratos journeyed down farther through the river he found Athena's Ghost. When he seen her, Athena then gave him the Blades of Exile. Athena granted Kratos with these weapons and said to him "These are the Blades of Exile. They will help guide you on your journey to the flame." The blades have attacks similar to their predecessors, the Blades of Chaos and Blades of Athena, but with a distinctly different design, featuring horned demon faces on the hilts, pronounced hooks on their lower edges, and an intricate pattern of orange stripes on the flat sides of the blades, which emit fire. These blades grant Kratos the magic power, Army of Sparta, as well as the ability to grapple enemies. Kratos soon learned that Pandora's Box still exists with the power to kill a God even after Ares died. The box is protected by the Flame of Olympus and the only way to put out the flame and reach the box, is to sacrifice Pandora. However, Pandora is being held in a Labyrinth. Once Kratos found her he took her up to the flame and made the sacrifice. Once he opens the box he realizes that it is empty and that he just killed a child for nothing, just as he killed his family in vain. This leaves Kratos with another regret on his mind. After this, Kratos kills Zeus. However, his spirit is still alive and attacks Kratos. Kratos then goes into his own mind and finds hope inside him, forgiving himself for all of the bad things that he had done in his life. Including the killing of Athena, his Wife, his Daughter and Pandora. Once…
