The book Godless was written by a conservative columnist as well as one of the best-selling authors: Ann Coulter. It was released in June 2006, preceding another one of her more popular books How to Talk to a Liberal (If you must). This book was released during the pending election of 2008, when past elections had Republicans losing majority in the Congress. During this time especially, there was a huge split between Democrats and Republicans as well as liberals and conservatives. Coulter highlights many controversial issues that were going on at the time, such as abortion, education, and violence, and how liberals misinterpret them. The tone throughout the work was mainly serious as it talks about some solemn topics, but there are certain times when she makes rude remarks, and this makes the tone more humorous. …show more content…
She does this by comparing it to Catholicism, Islam, Judaism, Christianity, etc. She also argues that the tenets of the liberal “Church” would be martyrs or the clergy, but she mainly focuses on public school teachers. One of the points she makes is that public school teachers are not true jobs and they get overpaid, which in my opinion is extremely illogical. She says this because she doesn’t agree with the idea that teachers still get paid regardless of the fact that they get off at 3 o’clock every day and they get a summer off. She claims that they are government workers who get paid more than “most of those pipe-fitters who no longer have jobs.”
