Running from God’s will
Jonah 1:1-3:4 Introduction: Have you ever had times where you want to go one way and God want’s you to go in the opposite direction? Have you been brought down so low because of your way you called out to God? Have you grudgingly gave in to God? The third Wrestlemania had a tagline. That tagline was for Hulk Hogan vs. Andre the Giant. The immovable object vs unstoppable force. Something had to give right? The immovable object was body slammed and ultimately lost to the unstoppable force. I recognize that the illustration is faulty as theologically speaking God is not a force. Yes man can be moved we aren’t immovable. Think about the underlying message though. Question: Why should we not run from God? Incomplete Sentence: Men and women need to not run from God because: Body I. God’s call on your life, c. 1 vv.1-2 A. God is the caller 1. He spoke to you and showed you His plan.

From the get go see Jonah wanted jack squat with this. His attitude here is this. Man do I really have to. Do I need to do my job? Do I really need to write that paper? God called Jonah and showed him what he was to do. Here’s the thing. Your calling should not get this response. Think about this. Let’s say you are a manager of a company. You have to hire somebody. There are two people that showed up to the interview. Both of them look the exact same on paper. One of them says to you not to hire you because the company is to good. He repeatedly pleads with you to not hire him. If you hire him he will do the work grudgingly. His heart is not in the work. Now there is another person. He says I have nothing to offer to you but myself. I will do this better than anyone can. I am willing to do whatever it takes to further this company. You hire him he does just that. Do you put God in that
