Good Parents
. I am so grateful to have such an honour standing here to deliver my speech entitled “What does it take to be good parents?”.

What Does It Take to be Good Parents? Good morning ladies and gentlemen. I am Chong Cia Ling, the founder of BrainyMontessori. I am so grateful to have such an honour standing here to deliver my speechentitled “What does it take to be good parents?”. I am sure all the parents here will agreewith me that being parents is tough. Bringing up children is a very difficult task.Everyone wishes to be good parents. However, sometimes we could be so discouragedand helpless when we get the feedback that we are not good parents although we havedone our upmost to provide the best for our children. What is the cause of that? Today, letus learn how to be good parents together. A parent is said to be a good parent only after seeing how he has brought up hischildren. They should bring up the children in a very good discipline. However, we needto bear in mind that discipline does not mean that they have to punish their children forevery wrong doing. Recently there is a famous video of a Texas judge hitting his teenagedaughter repeatedly with a belt. This father justified his actions as “discipline.” I beg todiffer. According to the video, the father is not disciplining his daughter. He is engagingin an act of punishment intent on hurting, humiliating and controlling her!Well, it is common that children do mistakes. Yet, what a good parent must do ishe has to teach him how to differentiate what is good and what is bad. We need tounderstand that giving punishment especially physical punishment will not help childrenin a way instead it will create new problems. Indeed, it hurts. For instance, children willbecome rebellious as they have already got used to the corporal punishment. Eventually, they will develop hatred towards their parents. Deborah Sendek (2011) also claims that physical punishment is ineffective

7.46 X 10-2 moles of HCl X 2 = .1492 moles of HCl used and the molarity would be .1492 moles HCl/ .05 liters HCl = 2.984 molarity. The amount of unreacted HCl in the solution is shown here: 0.1492 moles used - .0746 moles needed = 0.0746 moles unreacted. The amount of NaOH moles needed to completely react with this excess HCl is .0746 moles of HCl and .0746 moles of NaOH. To titrate the excess HCl you would need a molarity of 2.984 NaOH. In the equation Zn(s) + 2HCl (aq) = H2 (g) + ZnCl2 (aq) ZnCl2 is soluble. When using NaOH the equation would be ZnCl2 + 2NaOH = Zn (OH)2 + ZnCl and Zn(OH)2 has a low solubility.…

Simple physical punishments; such as pinching, flicking, and spanking, are carried out on us at a very young age, and all throughout life. Our parents are here to discipline us, to teach us the difference of right and wrong. When we first misbehave, our parents might tell us to “knock it off” or “stop” and they may raise their voice when asserting these commands. We sometimes stop when told to, but sometimes we ignore their commands and keep misbehaving repeatedly. This is where physical punishment comes into play. A form of physical punishment would and will be carried out on us. At first it may be a simple punishment, but gradually the punishments intensify. Once a punishment has been carried out, many of us become cloaked in fear of punishment and from this fear we learn not to do that mistake again. Simple punishment is used for the good of children and to discipline them, “Dr. David Safir, father of five and grandfather of five, CNN asked him to talk to us about his views on spanking. He said he was spanked as a child, spanked his own children when necessary and believes the occasional use of physical punishment -- not abuse -- can be an effective tool for parents” (Zeidler) If these simple punishments are executed out…

In the end a child’s actions is based on how they were brought up from beginning of life, by teaching them right from wrong, good and bad. Permissive and Authoritative Parenting are opposites but in the end have the same consequences towards the end but in desperate needs they will result back to what they were…

The most influential role models in a child’s life are their parents. It is important that parents act as a model for how they want their children to behave. Virtually all of the most dangerous criminals were regularly threatened and punished in their childhood. It is natural that children learn attitudes and behaviors through observation and imitation of their parents’ actions, so it is the responsibility of parents to set an example of understanding and wisdom to them. Studies found that the more corporal cvvvpunishment a parent reported using, the greater the probability of the child being a delinquent. "I have yet to see a repeat male delinquent that wasn't raised on a belt, board, cord, or fist," says Ralph Welsh, a child and adolescent psychologist who has interviewed over 4,000 juvenile delinquents in more than 30 years of research. According to Welsh, the physical and mental pain of being hit by a parent frightens children. "But eventually," he says, "the fear fades out and what's left is anger and aggression." So is smacking the kind of example we want to send to our kids in the future? Do you really want them to look upon you with fear and anger?…

Children need to be disciplined because it they are not, they will run rapid. However, some parents or adults cross the fine line between discipline and child abuse. ”Don’t Spare the rod and spoil the child.” We have all heard that before, as a child I heard it a lot. I was not the most well behaved child, so I got into plenty of trouble. My mom hated my temper tantrums. When I was little, she disciplined me, and now I am a well behaved young adult who knows right from wrong. Discipline is a way of teaching a child how to do what is right while growing up. There are multiple ways to discipline a child and make him/her behave. I feel that it is very important to begin to disciplining children when they are young so they know what is expected of them.it gives them a better sense of right and wrong while growing up once a child has reached his/her teenage years it is too late to begin the discipline process. If parents begin early, I believe that the most effective ways of disciplining children are timeout, taking away privileges, talking to the child, and, as a last resort, and spanking.…

Children do not come with guidelines or instructions. What they do come with is a crucial set of physical and emotional needs that need to be met. To raise children properly, parents duties are not limited to just food, shelter and protection. Parents are largely responsible for their children’s success in life. Parents are required to teach and educate children. They have to shape knowledge and character into their children to prepare them to face the real world. To be successful with this, parents must provide self esteem needs, teach moral and values and provide discipline that is both effective and appropriate. As the generations have changed, many parenting styles have evolved, as well. While growing up my mother was always more of an authoritarian parent. As I have grown up and have children on my own, I choose not to parent with the same parenting methods that she had used. I am more of an authoritative parent. There are great differences in both my mother’s and my parenting styles, such as parental responsiveness and parental demandingness; however the largest disparity is the end result: the children.…

The authoritarian parenting style causes a variety of child outcomes, such as, aggressive behavior outside the home, depression, anxiety and the urge to become rebellious. In Essay # 20, My Father’s Parenting vs. My Parenting, the author states that she did become rebellious from this parenting style. She also stated in her essay that she always looked for nurturing and unconditional love from her dad, but it was never there. This caused her and her father to never actually have a good father-daughter relationship. Having a father-daughter relationship or any parenting relationship with a child is important for a child’s development. There is nothing wrong with discipline, but it has to be proper disciple. Children can be punished and yelled out, but they need to know why they are being punished or yelled out and what they did wrong to receive the punishment they…

If asked to recollect some of our dreadful moments from our childhood , it automatically goes back to days when we shuddered by the mere thought of being sent to a strict boarding school, locked up in a dark mosquito room, stretching our hands and knuckles to feel the metal rulers painfully strike us. Bullied by the kids from neighborhood, molested by the sex starved pedestrians at the bus stops, being picked by older siblings and relatives for no fault, harsh blow of bad words and scolding from parents, these are just enough to make us flinch with horror. My idea is to bring an open letter to parents and guardians to understand what transpires in reality yet, gets shoved under carpets of ignorance and myths about raising perfect children. Parenting and guardianship is more than what’s been believed to be and said to be. It requires same amount of training, learning and understanding as doing anything else .Parenting does not mandate on having an exceptionally high qualification, degree or diploma. It doesn’t matter how much is your IQ , how good are your looks , how heavy is your pocket or how wealthy are you. It only requires physical and mental participation to make life simple, warm with genuine love and regard to your little ones and sometimes even becoming a child to raise a child! For that your own experience of childhood is important .What went missing or was found in abundance in those golden years has made us what we are today. But a difficult little ingrate takes in form of an innocent child only when there is lack of consistent encouragement, affection, imbalance of discipline and fun. This breeds bad habits which in turn give rise to bad behaviors. Some of the parents unsuccessful in their attempts to correct their kids prefer to seek professional help from schools and specialists.…
