Gout & Uric Acid Education Society Introduces a Series of Informative Brochure and Online Resources to Educate the Relation Between Gout and Other Serious Health Issues.
Brochures are intended to educate on kidney health, hearth health, bone health, and diabetes health issues, which are commonly related to Gout.

PITTSBURGH, Mar. 22, 2015 – Considered as one of the most painful forms of arthritis, gouty arthritis, also known as podagra, occurs when there is an excessive amount of uric acid in joints due to high levels of blood, which results of a vastly painful inflammation. The accumulation of uric acid can lead to serious health issues, and surprisingly, many Americans – including gut patients – are not aware of it.

A 2015 survey1 conducted on behalf of the Gout & Uric Acid Education Society (GUAES) reveals that one in five Americans are aware that gout patients have a greater chance of being diagnosed with diabetes and kidney disease, only one in ten understands the relation between gout and cardiovascular health issues, and seven in ten do not link gout with the probability of developing deformities, which generally begin with long-term bone, joint and tissue damage.

    We know many people worry about the risks of getting arthritis and osteoporosis, as well as injuries from falls as you start climb the latter called age. We are doing this radio ad in promoting a healthier Muscular system well in to your retirement age. Although some chronic disease risk factors such as (family history, age or sex) are not able to be modified and so cannot be incorporated into prevention strategies, these factors can help to identify people or groups at high risk of developing a disease, enabling a targeted approach. The modifiable risks factors are common to all chronic disease which includes diet, weight, exercise, alcohol intake and smoking. It is important to understand that adopting healthy lifestyle behaviors will reduce the risk of all chronic diseases, including arthritis and musculoskeletal conditions. A balanced diet will help to achieve a healthy weight and body. When increasing the intake of calcium also absorption of vitamin D will assist in reducing risks of developing arthritis and osteoporosis. Regular exercise aids in the prevention of musculoskeletal conditions, and it helps to alleviate and reduce joint pain and stiffness and build strong muscle around the joints. People who are obese are at higher risk of arthritis or osteoporosis due to the increased load across the weight bearing joints, and increasing the stress on cartilage and ligaments. People who reduce their smoking and drinking will reduce the risks for low bone mass, low bone strength, and low body weight.
