How Much power is too much power? “Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power” (Lincoln). In the past years, you have heard things about how this, and that, has too much power. People believe that a government should have enough power to govern multiple city/states. But they shouldn’t have the power to control the people to the point where they don’t rights. Power can make large differences in a person, a group, or even a whole society. Power is something you have to be very careful with if a person gives too much power to a person/group, it can cause corruption. How much power is the right amount of power? “Power can’t be exactly measured. There has been a research that most citizens feel safe with a strong central government, and a government that can provide protection”(The Atlantic). Many people could say that their government has “too much power”. But then at the same time, they don’t even know what would be considered the right amount! There have been many surveys and it seemed to be the majority seem to say that. The right amount of power is having enough power to have control but not owning them. How much power could be identified as too much power? “‘whoever prevails in November will inherit a sweeping power to use lethal force against suspected terrorists and militants, including Americans’ Let me put things more starkly: Under current precedent, the commander in chief can give a secret order to kill an American citizen with a drone strike without charges or trial” (NYT). There are many articles on so, and so “have too much power”. But if the executive branch has enough power to send out a drone to assassinate an innocent person, people are going to say the executive branch has too much power! So in my point, “too much power” could be defined as; someone having enough power to kill someone or maybe even have absolute power over that person, to the point where the person cannot do anything. In all, the right amount of power is enough to power to have control and order but no having to control the person’s life.
