What might have been some of the considerations she had in making her decision?
Perhaps seeing Barb’s and Anne’s strong emotions towards the event managed to push Janice away. Being told of the misery endured by the family and being treated as a solution to it all could have been overwhelming. Janice was not Grace as they kept trying to make her be; she had her own story, identity, and more importantly a family. Janice may have not previously considered the consequences of reaching out to her birth family and once there surrounded by extreme emotion she panicked. Barbara and Rodney form a family. Barb is able to let go of her resentment and insecurities which opens her up as a person bettering her relationships.
Anne is still trying to overcome her 35 years of misery and unrealistic expectations. The money was used to remodel the house.
Janice came into terms with her inner conflicts and evolved as a character. She and her families learned to live in harmony regardless of their differences. Janice is currently in the process of building a case against the unjust treatment of Native American families. She and her biological family decide to use a share of the money to open a program to aid families in similar circumstances.
