The rules help in shaping and providing the best database program that the college will use. One of the business rules is that the database will only be accessed by the database administrator or the heads of department. This way, students and instructors will not be able to alter any information without seeking for permission first. Results from the database will also be trusted because they are based on true facts that have taken place thought the course (Halpin& Morgan, 2008). The second rule is that all entities should understand their roles in the college. Departments will be responsible for offering courses. Classes will be generated based on the course. Instructors will be expected to teach the students in class. The students will be expected to learn from the instructor and perform well. Once all entities have known their roles, it will be easy to maintain and work with the database. Everybody will be expected to play their part to ensure that the college produces good…
Database Systems 1 was a subject that I truly enjoyed participating in. The very first day of the class I realized that this was going to be a course that I would learn a lot from and would be able to see the connections that this course has to all aspects of the world. Through the combined knowledge this course provided me I will be able to apply more convincing and substantial arguments towards everything that I do. This course has provided me a base for the rest of my computer science career and helped me develop time management and research skills.…
One positive to Grade Inflation is the fact that students are less stressed over grades and school over all, besides the more money the school gets as a result of higher letter grade output. Although students are less stressed, the do however become lazier which in the end results in more stupid people. Some students might take advantage of this and take more classes or do positive and valuable things outside of school. This would not be a problem if students are responsible for their education, and see that grades are not the main reason why students go to school. Students go to schools to learn and understand what they learn. Teachers in grade school should teach students to focus on the material instead of the grades. The grades should only be a representation of what the students knows and what the students is capable of understands, not how well they can hold their bladder or the amount of printer paper they can take to school.…
In an article discussing whether or not a pass/fail grading system can reflect a student’s progress, Bonnie M. Miller, MD advocates for criteria based learning. She accurately points out that “A pass/fail grade indicates simply that a student has achieved an expected level of competence” and that this information is critical to understand if this student has fulfilled his or her obligations. She says that “students should be evaluated on their initiative, engagement with and concern for their own learning, interpersonal skills, [and] teamwork skills,” and that a student who meets this criteria qualifies for an A.…
Grading is a topic in education which has caused much discussion and disagreement among educators; most agree that it has much potential to be used in ways which enhance student performance and achievement, but agreeing on specifics of how to design grading in a way most beneficial to students has been another matter. This paper compares two grading systems: the commonly used one hundred point system, and a fifty point system. It will examine the validity of both systems as in terms of measuring student achievement. Additionally, it will provide some points for educators to ponder as they seek to use the powerful tool of grading in ways most helpful toward our shared goal of providing the fairest and most meaningful motivation for our students.…
A particularly difficult assignment is handed back with a large red C-minus glaring from the top corner. Embarrassed and upset, the student shoves the paper out of sight and does not answer any questions about how the assignment went. People think differently of a straight-A student than one who is usually in the C range. However, although letter grades are heavily relied on, they are so subjective, since a grade of A in one class might translate to a C in another, or vice versa. Which raises the question of why we place so much emphasis on the letter grade.…
It was a rookie error. After 10 years I should have known better, but I went to my office the day after final grades were posted. There was a tentative knock on the door. “Professor Wiesenfeld? I took your Physics 2121 class? I flunked it? I wonder if there’s anything I can do to improve my grade?” I thought: “Why are you asking me? Isn’t it too late to worry about it? Do you dislike making declarative statements?”…
We all have different thought processes and skills, so why are we individuals all tested by the same means? Society tries to change us to fit into their puzzle called life, when we should be changing the picture. This is the same society that tells us abortions is wrong yet looks down on teenage parents. This society also sells products to promote healthy skin and hair, yet the women on the package have hair extensions, fake nails, and are photo shopped. Pastors preach forgiveness and acceptance yet say you’re wrong and are going to hell for different beliefs. Governments preach peace but endorse war. They say laws are made to protect us, yet our cries for help are ignored. We are told to break unjust laws, but they call you a rebel who thinks their above the law when you do. You’re told to be unique and stand out, but are criticized for not fitting in and are called attention seekers. I don’t expect everyone to understand, except the kids who know what it feels like to feel worth no more than the grade they got on their report card, and the ones whose best stories were never good enough for the teacher because you missed out key little techniques, didn’t follow the class plan, and the language was too informal. Then the teacher would reference Julius Caesar and hamlet and all you could do is to grin and bear it. When your teacher would finish you would say “did you know that Shakespeare was the innovator of slang? Society looked onto him as a mad man for having such outrageous thoughts.” Some of the most revolutionary people throughout history were considered outcasts. As Albert Einstein once said “Everyone is a genius, but if you judge a fish on its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing it is stupid.” So why are we told that in order to succeed in life we must all have the same education when we are all building towards different futures? Grades have been proven to help students stay on…
In today’s society, the topic of grading system still is a big argument. Some people think that we should have grade structure and student just pass when they measure up fully. However, the rest of them argue that we should eliminate the grade education because it affects student creations and behavior. According to Carl Singleton, in “what Our Education System Needs is More F’s” he states that teacher should be more stringent when giving out grades. Students deserve to have an F’s whenever they can’t meet requirements. On the other hand, in the article “The Case Against Grades” of Michael Thomsen, he thinks we should abandon grades because students will have many problems such as: stressful, pressure, limited their creative…..Similar to Thomsen, I think grades should be removed altogether. It will influence student behavior and decrease their education capacity.…

Lakes are most abundant in high northern latitudes and in mountain regions, particularly those that were covered by glaciers in recent geologic times. The primary sources of lake water are melting ice and snow, springs, rivers, runoff from the land surface, and direct precipitation. In the upper part of lakes there is a good supply of light, heat, oxygen, and nutrients, well distributed by currents and turbulence. As a result, a large number of diverse aquatic organisms can be found there. The most abundant forms are plankton (chiefly diatoms), algae, and flagellates. In the lower levels and in the sediments, the main forms of life are bacteria. See also limnology.…
The author, Arthur E. Lean, in his article, “The Farce called ‘Grading’ ” objected to the idea of grading students. He believed that they used grades the system scholar in order to reward and punish students (p. 132). He stated that the tendency of grading was to humiliate and make the less intelligent student pay for his or her incapacity to learn even if it wasn’t his or her fault (p. 132). To emphasize his point of view about the unimportance of grades in the system scholar, he declared, “In spite of the staggering amount of incontrovertible evidence that grading not only does not accomplish its purpose, but in realty inhibits and injures the educative process, we obstinately continue with this perverted practice (p. 132).”…
As computer Technology changes as such fast phase many business sectors try to cope up by upgrading computer System constantly in order to stay competitive. With the rapid growth of Technology today, there is no doubt that computer will become a common asset in all profession.Grading System means making the task for professors/instructors in computing and calculating grades. Grading System is designed to provide incentive reward for achievement and assist in identifying problems of students. The grade of the student is a scale which determines students who need more improvement and require more assistance which will help teachers in guiding them towards their development. It also shows where the students excel most so they can be honed and encouraged to continue their good work improve more and aim higher. At the end, it will be the reference for the judgments of whether a student can step up to a higher level of learning or remain to be polished. From these reasons, it is clearly concluded how important to it is to make sure that the grades of students are accurately calculated and safely stored in a well-founded database. Knowing grades especially at the end of the semester is the most awaited and most important part of individual students because it’s a way of measuring his/her performance whether he or she passes the subject or not. Unfortunately the most common problem encountered by these students is the delay of release of their grades. Itis the important record to keep even for the longest time for the referral and credentials of the students to enter their next level of attaining their goals. It is the tract record that recognizes one student. This may be used for analyzing student attitude and values.…
