One of the most important academic achievement in my life has been the World Distinction I received for scoring the highest marks in Geography and History in O’ Levels world over. This was important to me because not only it brought me immense recognition at the national level, but also it was a rewarding experience in terms of learning. I had always found this course taxing, for it demanded an in-depth understanding of concepts in geography, memorization of facts in history, and critical analysis of events. I, however, took it up as a challenge and decided to appear for its examination in the first year of O’ Levels. I regretted this decision soon after: I failed in the school Mock examinations. The school administration warned me for the withdrawal of my admission form. In such intimidating situation, anybody could have lost her heart but me. I went through the pains of searching all the relevant available books, attending extra coaching sessions in evenings, and seeking help from teachers all across the town. This strenuous routine had an adverse impact on my health, so much so that close to examination, my arm muscles developed strain and had to be casted. Without losing hope, I appeared in the exam, but had to seek assistance of a helper to write down my answer scripts. This tedious process paid off when I secured a 99% score in the subject with a World Distinction, and earned a Presidential Award for academic excellence. But more importantly I earned the pride of my parents and my alma mater. It set an example for my own self that I can face an impossible situation with confidence and I have something to
