Graduation Speech: Chino Hills Basketball
Here is your Chino Hills basketball starting line up; Lonzo Ball, Gelo Ball, Melo Ball, Eli Scott, and Onyeka Okongwu! These 5 guys are just a fraction of one big team who have become real winners in our hearts and really showed this nation who we are and what our basketball team is really made of. Now these guys aren’t just all basketball, yet it is year round for them, their also just regular beings like us. on March 23, 2016 our Journalism class sat down with these 5 guys and interviewed them. Now what are the odds these starters basically grew up with each other. We’ve got the Ball brothers who were of course born together Lonzo Ball being the oldest who is currently a senior, then Gelo Ball who is a junior, and Melo Ball who’s currently
a freshman. These 3 guys have known Eli Scott and Onyeka Okongwu since 1st grade, their all practically brothers! Since these guys are extremely close we asked Lonzo would he miss playing with his brothers and the rest of the fab 5? He answered as humble as can be that he would not cry or be sad about it yet miss the privilege of getting to play with both his brothers who are truly his best friends as well. He also included that he won’t be out of their lives completely, he will still attend next year’s basketball games cheering them on from courtside. One thing that had us all wondering was, do these players get special treatment around here? Unfortunately, these CIF, National, and League Champions do not, and their okay with it. These guys are your average athletes going to practice on the daily and getting their schoolwork done at night maintaining their grades just like the rest of us. And with all that practice Coach Baik has been giving them, they’ll surely feel confident and ready for Upcoming State Championship that is being held in Sacramento. Our huskies are full of excitement and pride for these boys and we wish them luck on Saturday night hoping they bring us home the gold!
