Graduation Speech: Marilyn's Return To Fall
Morning everyone! Hope you're getting your rest on, Marilyn because that's exactly what your body needs and we'll continue to keep your seat warm until you're ready to spin your positive magic. It may surprise you to learn I have been regularly contemplating the imminent return of Fall in recent days. After a hot, dry summer, the notion of cooler temperatures, soft rain, the smell of apples baking with cinnamon and turning leaves have me in a sleep-walking, longing for autumn dream cycle. Considering the moderating temperatures, the warm, golden light, and my plants' blooming flowers take on a lush, hauteur that has taken a season to cultivate as they strut their colorful stuff in s final showy promenade. Yes, it's one last elegant, over-the-top

Ordinarily, the sun’s light captured everything in sight like a mother hugging a child and giving it warmth. From the dark oak bed, I rose because of the unpleasant bites of mosquitoes. The Civil War is always on my mind. After a most successful battle yesterday when our soldiers all left home, relief and happiness came to mind, for there was a chance that we would win. Consequently, that would explain the surge of energy running through my body after waking up. Starting off with breakfast, I walked to my kitchen, the wood underneath my feet start to creak. The closer I walked to the kitchen, the warmer and cozier the atmosphere became. My servant, Julia, prepared breakfast for me today similar to many other days, I always wonder what will breakfast will be. Fresh eggs from my brown feathered hens were soft surrounded by creamy goat cheese, and well-cooked toast was on the plate this morning. Enjoying the meal is a morning ritual,…

You are all so very lucky to be able to have finished grade school unlike my sister, Margot and me. High school might not have been your favorite thing but it was a wonderful experience for you all. I had to stop going to school at the young age of 11, it was my fifth grade year. I didn’t have many of the opportunities you had, but luckily I did get the chance to fall in love with… Peter van Pels. Many of you when you finish college will get married, find jobs, and start a family. All of you sitting in front of me have the chance to do something absolutely spectacular with you lives so, JUST DO IT! Even though school was taken from me I had a passion for writing. While living in the annex with 7 other people it got hard. I felt like I was all alone but one of the things that got me through it was, doing something I enjoyed. For some of you college might not be you first choice, Try taking classes you enjoy the topic of to get through it much easier just like I did with my journal. Before I got into the annex I was harassed because of my religion but I didn’t change who I was because of the words and actions that people said or did to me. When many of you are searching for jobs you ideas will be put down, but remember to NEVER compromise for something you believe in. When I was sent to live in concentration camps I realized that aren’t the things that bring you happiness in life. I had to learn to live without basic necessities such as food and water. Some of you later on in your life will worried about money. Let me assure you, you my friends can live with out nice clothing, the best shoes, and technology. The main thing you need to know is that material things aren’t what bring you happiness it’s your family and friends. Narrated in the first person “Graduation” is Maya Angelou’s account of her eighth grade graduation and how reality doesn’t always meet expectations. Using allegory, allusion and changes in tone, Angelou builds her story, giving the reader a sense of the excitement and anticipation she felt, inequalities in gender and racial prejudices of that time, and how those inequalities and prejudices encroached upon her graduation, ruining her expectations and leaving her feeling defeated. Furthermore, Angelou gives the reader a feeling of her defeatist attitude and how, (through one person standing up proud and strong), she was able to gain personal insight and hope for a better future.…

Billy Joel is a very well known musician who is respected and acknowledged all around the world. I think he was an appropriate speaker for a college graduation. He used one question at the beginning of the speech that caught the audience's curiosity, "Why do musicians give so much time to charitable causes?" He then branched out from there to discuss more important issues. This question helped him create an invitational environment. I think asking a question also helped him show a sense of organization and importance to the issue of why he was there.…

It had rained recently and the scent of pine filled the car as we drove with our windows down. I noticed wet red dirt that resembled clay. I pointed out this discovery to the kids, whom were amazed at every new sight. The air was so clean, there was no scent of smog, to which I had grown accustomed, in my home town. We observed many trees and relished in their beauty. There were trees of all kinds ranging from pine, to cedar, hickory and many others. The colors that filled them made me realize, I had truly arrived. The scenery was so beautiful and welcoming. I was home and it felt that way from the moment I arrived. My children and I noticed fall leaves everywhere. All colors associated with autumn made me cry, I was just so happy and exhausted. I couldn’t wait to get out of the car and really relax. After about three days of driving I was totally worn out and suffered from a bad case of insomnia. In spite of it all, I was excited to start my new job and our new…
