Based on the primary sources we read on class I think that England’s colonization in Virginia was overall successful. According to the narrative of Arthur Barlowe in 1584 you can see that the natives were very nice. Barlowe talks about trading with them and how the king always kept his promise and gave them food. “He sent us every day a brace or two of fat bucks, conies, hares, fish, the best of the world”. Barlowe describes the land as very plentiful he even says the natives got better oaks that they do on England. In this narrative the impression of the natives is friendly and very kind to the English. On the contrary there are two more narratives one from Thomas Harriot and one from John Smith that show a very different…

George Washington was an essential aspect of making the United States what it is today. In 1789, George Washington was unanimously elected. As the first president of the United States George Washington had a lot of expectations to fulfil and that is exactly what he did in his two years of presidency. There are several things that Washington did during his two terms that had the big effects on us today such as separating the United States from Great Britain, limiting the presidency term by suggesting that two terms of four years was enough for any president, and signing the first copyright law stating that “An act for the encouragement of learning by securing the copies of maps, charts, and books, to the authors and proprietors of such copies,…

As you may know, today marks the exact two-month anniversary of your election as Birmingham's mayor, and I congratulate you for defeating Mr. Bull Connor. However, while I do respect your authority, I must note that you have not done a lot to help the current state of affairs concerning African-American civil rights, and I am calling and counting on you to accomplish more. I do know that this situation is what the majority of people want, so technically, racial segregation is the most beneficial and advantageous condition. This hatred towards African-Americans is what the majority of Birmingham citizens wish to exist, so I understand that to some extent, I must go on with it. In 1951, many racial ordinances…

So, what happened on Jersey Shore last night? I’m sure most of you could tell me. So, what happened with the IMF and the Greek government last night? I’m sure most of you couldn’t tell me. The world we live in today has changed a lot. We live in such a safe, comfortable place, despite economic troubles and mounting debt. But we don’t have much to complain about. We don’t really need to worry about violation of our human rights or violent protests or government forces violence against citizens or such things like that. Everything is taken care of for us, we just have to show up at school or work, do our job, go home and sit in front of the TV and turn off our brains. We don’t even need to think anymore. We live in a culture where young people know more about the life of Lindsay Lohan than they do about what is going on in our parliament. Why? How did this possibly come about and why don’t people care?…

Good afternoon Brothers and Sisters. For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Stephanie LeBaron, and I have been a member of Lake Ontario ward for about nine months now. Originally, I am from Calgary, Alberta, and growing up there, I was surrounded by family members and friends both in the gospel and out. As soon as I hit the ‘mid-single years’ though, the peer group that had supported me through my teens and twenties seemed to slowly dissipate. Whether friends got married and started families, moved away, or took up with other people, I found that I was sorely lacking in a core group of individuals that were having similar experiences and living a parallel lifestyle as a mid-single member of the gospel. And while Calgary is a large city with a strong legacy of church membership, it does not have a dedicated ward for the mid-singles to attend.…
