Also, you did a great work relating the quotes with the explanation you offered. You did the same in your second and third paragraph, connected your ideas with the author’s ideas, explained and exemplified using quotes from the text. Your explanation on the analysis of the rhetorical choices is well-done, however you did not connect it back to the author’s purpose. Try to explain how the chosen rhetorical choice is effective in helping the author reach his audience and purpose. Additionally, I would suggest you to explain how the author’s rhetorical strategy works; it would definitely make your analysis more complete.…
When I first read question five and decided that this is the topic I wanted to write about for this particular essay, it made me think about all the different movies I have seen where the main character tragically dies but remains in the in between because they have a certain task they must complete before they can truly be gone and go to heaven. I’ve always found these kinds of movies interesting so I decided I would write my own story. Here it goes!…

“Want-Creation Fuels Americans’ Addictiveness” is a confusing title as much as the essay belonging to it. In the essay, which initially appeared in the St. Paul Pioneer Press Dispatch, Author Philip Slater poorly emphasizes that American society has contributed and amplified Americans’ addiction behavior. The article is initially engaging to a reader, however, the transitions between topics can lose the reader’s interest because of the ambiguity. Slater also brings good points for the reader to consider but he fails to correlate them together in a manner that could easily identifiable. Slater is also unclear as to the intention of his argument by his manner of bringing up irrelevant issues that are present in American society. Ultimately, the poor organization and Slater’s inability to show the relationship between the examples given make this essay difficult to read and difficult to comprehend the purpose for which it was written for.…

I thought it was interesting how being a “white n----“ was something undesirable in the slave community. When a large slave comes up to Adolph and said "Law, now, boys! dis yer's one o' yer white n-----s, — kind o' cream color, ye know, scented!” The situation slaves were put them made them resent white people to such a degree that it was terrible to be a “white n-----“. It is ironic also that they themselves used the term “white” with the derogatory term “nigger” to insult someone n their own community. One might have thought – given the ability whites had to roam free and easily – that being white was a good thing. Of course, being called “white” had more to do with the fact that these slaves associated “white n----“ as a portrayal of their oppressor, and by calling one of their own a “white n - - - - “ they were lashing out at their oppressors and anyone who tried to emulate them. The idea of a “white n----“ also brings to mind how close these slaves are to their owners making the reader question “How different are these people that they can be considered property while I can be considered…
In Joy Kogawa’s Obasan, Naomi is an innocent child who suffers a great deal throughout the novel. The adults of the Nakane family go through a lot of trouble to protect Naomi’s innocence just so Naomi could have a childhood like any other child. However much the adults tried, Naomi still sees the dark side of the world at an early age. In this novel, Naomi’s innocence is crucial seeing that throughout the novel she is baffled and unsure about the incidents that occur in her life in addition to that she has to suffer for incidents she does not comprehend.…
As I finish reading ‘The Odyssey’, story that is told by homer a poet who loved to tell stories of the gods and all the adventures and journeys the heroes went through. Odysseus the man who is astute and cares nothing but to get home to Ithaca where there, lies his kingdom, life, wife, and son who he had left when he was just born. While some might argue that Odysseus is not a hero, his decidedly heroic actions outweigh all of his faults because he is dishonest, self-centered, disloyal and disrespectful. He doesn’t care if he puts his man in danger he just wants to come back to Ithaca.…
Hamlet, written by the well-known Shakespeare, is a story which involves men who are implored to be “manly” by directing the lives of the women in order to make their own lives comfortable and refraining from copying feminine behavior. Hamlet and Ophelia, two characters who are supposedly in love with each other, are examples of how the men and women in this story are expected to live up to the stereotypical standards set by those who surround them. They are also examples of how when stereotypical standards are forced upon young men and women, their reaction to this forceful action has only negative consequences, which in this case is death.…

Through new experiences individuals acquire a sense of identity, growth and transformation broadening their perspective on the world. Throughout an individual’s journeys a sense of naivety is overcome and maturity becomes evident embarking onto new phases of life. J.C Burke’s The Story of Tom Brennan, P.J Hogan’s Muriel’s wedding and Ian Mudie’s My Father Began as a God all exemplify this concept of moving into the world.…
Coming from a family that has migrated from another country living is definitely something that is both extremely difficult and also very exciting. Being from another country parents typically expect a whole lot from their child or children, mainly because their main reasons for migrating was to have a better life from what they had growing up. Although parents who have migrated from other countries see this as a wonderful opportunity for their families sometimes it could also be the worst decision to make. In the sense that going to a different country people sometimes tend lose their sense of self or lose certain values they may have had in their country of origin. Not all people lose the values they grew up though some are able to retain those values.…
Erich Fromm a psychoanalyst and social critic who stated we should be disobedient for an individual can create a whole new beginning to the society. Meaning, becoming obedient can change a certain man’s life rejecting from higher class and creating his own. But as one man invents the whole world would want it. Releasing a new introduction could lead to “commodity hunger” and becoming “one man” that can change the world. To become an individual, the best way to start is to disobey the law and be free from them to do whatever you want. Do your own material production.…
Tris began the novel timid and unsure of herself and her desires, which was characteristic of her Abnegation upbringing: she was never allowed to focus on herself, so she never knew exactly what she wanted. Upon choosing Dauntless her bravery obviously begins to blossom, but she experiences some other changes as well. She forges friendships and relationships central to her identity, with people who bring out the best in her. And she learns that though she has chosen another faction, she can still be selfless; and indeed she is, time and time again. By the end of the novel, she is fully aware of herself as Divergent - someone who does not fit in, but who cannot be controlled. The events of the end of the novel reinforce who she has been - selfless - and who she wants to become - brave. There are many significant experiences to discuss, both good and bad, that shaped Tris as a person throughout her time in Dauntless.…
