The movie Gran Torino shows the dangers of gangs and the tension of racism. Both are a fatal are a fatal combination. The two downsides of society Gangs are a rag tag of group involved in crime and illegal activity. Racism is discrimination between two or many cultures or races. No strangers and certainly no Pleasants both from the past and all the way to the present. After a glimpse it’s easy to see the two themes addressed.
How it’s been addressed throughout the movie is one can divide a neighborhood the other no one is safe. Easy to dodge one but not the other being the same race doesn’t guarantee safety. Between this and real life there is no difference it isn’t fiction imagination that show the tolls of both issues. It started out as feud but turns into a friendship in the end which is a little irony all the way. The bond between Walt and Thao is sort of a worker/employer/friend/ a little hint of son. This is hard to see if it can happen but with loyalties formed and seeing the common between the other race than the family. Irony comes up even more something that had stroked me odd however I can see that it could work. That’s one aspect that keeps popping up in the movie in strange ways. Another is the reality of the movie but it isn’t based on any true events or any that can be seen.
Some of the terrible events that happened to two of them are real which is effective it’s not something that we imagine. It‘s real which adds the depth of fear and really gives the toll of the dangerous situation. We see what the gangs will do and who they get their power and get away with their deeds.
