'Grandfather' By Rudolfo A Grandfather
I read a story that was sad however had a great ending and meaning to it because of the boy in the story. He helps his dad realizes how he was treating his father. This is so very important because sometimes we do something to someone and we don’t really think we are doing something hurtful. In this story by Rudolfo A. Anaya, a grandfather lives with his son and grandson. They family didn’t enjoy have having grandfather live with them. The wife said,” he always in the way.” She made grandfather live in a small a apart away from the house, where he was cold and hungry. They didn’t take care of grandfather well and didn’t visit him. Then one day the grandson when to visit his grandfather. And that day changed everything for grandfather.

    Journal on My Grandmother Would Rock Quietly and Hum by Leonard Adame

    The poem has amazing imagery setting, which creates the vivid nostalgic atmosphere. Adame begins his story with the image of his grandma rocking quietly in her armchair, maybe for hours, for he stated until her swelled hands/calmed. This is a common scene of elderliness, when people enjoy the calm and slow movement of time, silently rocking on the armchair watching the day passing by. She appears to be a typical grandma, who would feel cold in a hot summer day to wear thick socks and big sweaters. In the writers memory his grandma was really old and weak. She is also a person who would be glad to save any penny, as she laughs greedily going to Payless to buy cheap shoes. Even knowing Payless always sells cheap products, she would still wait until the check comes. This could be an embarrassing memory for a kid to be with his grandma, who goes excessively happy to save a few cents. However Adames flashback is immediately followed by the recall of his grandmothers warm and kind hearted actions. Every morning, when it is still early at dawn sunlight barely lit/the kitchen, his grandma would wake up before everybody else in the family, and prepare breakfast. The sound and smell of potatoes in frying saucepan would always wake him up, as a warm nurturous feeling to start the day. And although she makes nice hot meal for her children, she herself cannot enjoy it. She has lost her teeth, and can only eat bread soaked in coffee. As a kid perhaps he did not understand the feeling of that daily routine, but as he grows up and looks back to the past, it has a heartbreaking emotion. Adame realizes how hard it was for his grandmother. He also remembers how loving and caring she was to him.…

    The Renaissance portrait we are going to look at in this post is the Old Man with His Grandson by Domenico Ghirlandaio. This painting looks very average and boring to a person today who is not interested in art or just looking at it for the first time, but the painting of the Old Man with His Grandson was a revolutionary painting by Ghirlandaio in the late fifteenth century. Ghirlandaio along with Raphael, Jan van Eyck, and others started to introduce individuality and add values to their paintings; you can see examples of this in the Old Man with His Grandson. The first thing that will notice is that the painting does not look flat like most of the early paintings did; you see a 3D or lifelike image of the grandfather looking down at his grandson. The detail gets better when you see the waves in the hair of the grandfather and even the wrinkles of his nose; this is a big change in style from Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa. Second we can see that Ghirlandaio brings a sense of life to this painting and not just a dull portrait. You can really get a sense of what is going on in this painting by looking at the faces of the grandfather and grandson. The people do not have a blank expression on their face; to me, they are looking at each other with love, compassion and trust. You can also see that life is going on outside with a look through the window next to the grandfather, another value that was not represented in earlier paintings. Overall, this painting and other painted at that time give us a good look into the beginning of Renaissance values and how they have shaped what we do today.…
