Some Americans believe this novel is dirty, blasphemous, and advocate a communistic society, and therefore should not be taught in high schools. Explain why you agree or disagree that the novel should be read and studied in you high school.
Over the years, some Americans claimed that John Steinbeck’s novel “Grapes of Wrath is very dirty and blasphemous. They also believe that this novel should not be read nor discussed in a high school environment. On the other hand, there are critics, such as myself that believe Steinbeck wrote one of the finest pieces in the 20th century. This book can changes lives and easily influence a student’s future. Therefore, I strongly agree that “Grapes of Wrath” should be read in high schools, because it thoroughly details a vivid picture of a migrant family’s lifestyle during the Great Depression Era , help readers establish a sense of gratitude for the life they where blessed with, and help set powerful morals. The Great Depression, also known as the Dust Bowl, was a very challenging time period for people in the Southwest. As the “double whammy” of drought and depression deepened on the Great Plains, more and more farmers gave up or were forced off of their land. In this book the Joad family where the ones who had to reform their whole lives because of the difficulties they where facing in their hometown. The family packed their belongings and set out on a journey down route 66 to a supposedly better life in the Far West. In Search of a new beginning, the Joad’s family was deteriorating slowly day by day. Read this compelling novel readers will seem to establish a sense of gratitude and appreciation for the life they were blessed with today. Completely understanding the obstacles the Joads had to overcome will help students shows a better content of gratefulness for their life. Have you ever
