I enjoyed learning about a man who had a passion for his work, just like me. It never really came to mind that the “I ❤️ NY” was simply created on a small sheet of paper in the back of a taxi car. This Logo is the most highly plagiarized logo in the world. What's shocking is that he did this for free! Just by reading about him, you learn that Glaser is a man full of humbleness. He didn't want the attention of fame neither did he want the money, as to what Glaser says “Art is whatever.” And I interpret this as saying that art can be anything in this world, ranging from everyday objects to neater itself. Art is all around us. You just have to have the mind to find it. What's hilarious is that we humans can come up with the most clever ideas, not realizing that it might have impact on the world. Well I'll tell you this, Milton Glaser’s works sure did change my world, but the real question is, did he change…

According to April Gornik in “An Artist’s Perspective on Visual Literacy” from the EAP604 Reader Summer 2015. Nowadays we live in a ton of the media’s world. We can see advertisement, magazines and computer screen everywhere. We don’t pay attention to digital images and arts. Gradually we lose sensitivity to images. For instance, the author is a painter, and her collectors couldn’t distinguish between photo and drawing. They see little differences in machine made and hand made. We can’t notice in the medium. Huge advertisements are not equal art.…

The author begins by describing the balance requisite and how an advertisement can rely on how ‘visual weight’ is distributed within its ‘landscape’. In this first section of the article mathematical terms are used to illicit a sense of visual and spatial concepts, for example the ‘fulcrum’ or balancing point. In a secondary section, proportion is emphasized in regards to aesthetic layout in a graphic representation to best describe the size of an element in regards to the rest of the image/picture/advertisement. More specifically, it is demonstrated that non-proportional images use the proportion of a layout to fortify a particular theme or underlying message. In a third section, the movement aspect of graphic layout is explained as a sequence which enables directional flow in order to direct the interpreter into a coherent…

Graphic novels are very important to literature. They can illuminate and expose parts of a story to a reader that would otherwise be hidden within the text. Through the use of visual imagery, the reader can gain more information and decipher parts of the story from a graphic novel that would other wise be assumed or lost in the text alone, such as the author’s intent. Graphic novels can also be read by a much larger audience than text stories, this is due to…

The intention of this essay is to discuss an example of design from the early 1900’s. The design I am currently looking at is a poster called ‘Bugatti’ designed in 1925 by a graphic designer and typographer, A.M. Cassandre. His real name is Adolph Mouron, born on 1901 in Ukraine to French parents. He believed that “Designing a poster means solving a technical and commercial problem...in a language that can be understood by the common man." As a young man, Cassandre moved to Paris where he studied fine art at the École des Beaux-Arts and at the Académie Julian .The popularity of posters as advertising gave him an opportunity to work for a Parisian printing house.…

There weren’t huge strides in graphic design, until a few hundred years later when in 1750 the Industrial Revolution changed mass urban culture and the entire world. This transition marked not only social and economic change, from agriculture and commercial society to the modern urban areas. It also brought with it new machinery such as the steam engine, and the use of iron and coal as new energy sources. Retail, transportation and factories became a vital part of the work forces and so changed the way graphic art was not only designed but also the way it was marketed. Printing became all about mass communication in the 19th century. This rise of mass communication brought with it inevitable change and revelations. The first being that newspapers like Winslow Homer’s Baillou’s Pictorial and Honore Daumier’s Macaire Bill Poster were overdone and unnecessarily ornamented. The second revelation of the Industrial Revolution was that artists were becoming aware of the public’s reaction to these advertisements and those negative reactions. Because of this artist’s of the time decided to take design more seriously in the future. With these big, busy…

For thousands of years, the major factors influencing a developing society are things like religion, government, and art. When people study history, art does not seem to play such an important role. However, art helps us understand how a society feels, thinks, and looks at the surroundings which in they live. Ecclesiastical art, commonly known as Christian art, dates back to the first and second centuries. The first influences of Christian art were believed to be Roman in nature. Many historians feel that the Christian art influence came from the east, particularly the Orient. The first known works of Christian art were found in the Roman catacombs. The works found there were dated to the first or second century. The problem with finding Christian art during the first and second centuries was due to the religion still being quite small.…

There are many important decisions that I made through the past years. However, deciding college major has been my biggest concern for my educational pursue. I remember as a kid, I've have had many interests in different fields, and I would tell my dad "I want to be a scientist in the future" or "I want to be a designer in the future". At the year of 14, I was told by my mother that her nephew works in a advertisement company that earns a lot of money. By that time, I wasn't sure about what I wanted, so I decided to go with my parents decision. I never changed my major until this year; Art major to business major. What influenced my to change my major is my job experiences. Over the year, I've changed many jobs, and it's not that I had conflict with the company or they fired me. I realized I'm not willing to work for others; instead, I want others to work for me in the future. I want to become an entrepreneur and be stable on the future.…
