From an early age, I realized that it was possible to combine many of my general interests such as drawing, calligraphy, and graphic design with the digital aspects of technology to help explore new future career opportunities for myself. Realistically, it was not until high school where I selectively decided digital media would quickly become my main area of technological interest. This was a field which allowed further exploration of my interest in drawing, pattern design, and typography through the use of programs ranging from Adobe Illustrator to Photoshop. …show more content…
The opportunity to majoring in the field of digital art sets the foundation for people such as myself who wish to contribute educationally, creatively, and globally in expanding the field of graphic design. Being fortunate enough to have been given a place in the American educational system, which gradually led to my interest and pursuit of graphic design, I am able to see potential in young students such as Mariam. Students who, when given the proper educational opportunities in the field of design can grow to contribute their own ideas and creative talents in the future. A young girl who went from drawing in mud to creating animations and characters on the computer. The business took off quickly and successfully. “We were recognized within the first 2 years as one of the top design agencies nationally and as one of the few all black agencies around in graphic designs in the country” states Palmer (personal communication, December 7, 2011). I asked Palmer, “What inspired you to switch your focus from being a professional designer to a full time painter?” Despite the success of the business Palmer explains, “I never had a desire to do commercial work.” His first passion, painting, is something that has never left him and he decided to solely focus on this aspect of his career within the last 10 years.…

Mike Rayhawk was a computer programmer studying mathematics and software engineering in his early college days at Cornell University, New York for two years. He was interested in art a little, so he did some research. He got interested in the fact that artists make really good money if they had a long term strategy for handling their career correctly. Due to his unnatural talent in art, he didn’t get into the art school, Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. So he had to continue being a computer programmer. He didn’t give up there, he took night classes for a year just to get into art school. Mike wasn’t the best artist in the school, so he worked twice as hard just to keep up. He picked up a few tricks to art and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree of Fine Arts in Illustration, with Honors. Throughout the course of my junior year, I have been challenged to be the best artist of my ability. As a graphic designer, I have learned to view things in a different light and learned to express my creativity. Although I am still learning new things everyday about how to become a better artist, I have improved tremendously in every way ranging from the thought process all the way to finalizing each project, and I think that as the days go by I will continue to do well in my high school graphic design career, but in continuing my education in this major and working in a field closely related to it. I have produced at least 5 projects that reflect my passion for graphic design including the New York World’s Fair, currency recreation, and the handmade film poster from the first semester of my junior year and from the second half up until my most recent project, a book jacket, and an organic drink package design.…
