In the beginning of this graphic novel, the repetition of the line “The comedian is dead.” reflects how happiness had been torn from the world during the post-war era. The sharp, truncated statement conveys an empty state of mind. The second last panel on page 26 of the graphic novel shows an empty birds eye view of the city buildings. The dark tones, used and…
"Rattle his bones, over the stones, it's only a pauper, who Nobody owns". During The Graveyard Book, something about the title just told me it was going to be spooky. Nobody Owens, known as Bod, could have been just as normal as any person, if he did not live in a graveyard. His "adopted" family were ghosts, ceatures of the dead and also Silas, who was his guardian. His real family was killed by a guy named Jack when Bod was only 18 months old. Bod is very curious and soon finds himself in danger that teaches him his skills and limits.…

On this core Friday, Professor John Bultena from the Merritt Writing Program gave a lecture about comics. He doesn’t draw or write comics but he studied it for five years and been teaching about it. His goals for the lecture were to give an insight about what comics offer and the creation of behind it. There is more than enjoyment in comics and from visual information it can give a person deeper connection and understand through metaphor. Also in comics, there is always a question about how one panel goes to another, and the answer is always depending on the artist perception. John Bultena showed different styles of comic throughout the lecture but the first one he started out was with just a visual comic with no illustrations. This first one…
Comic books are loved by children, despite the lack of options they have on the market today. Comics aimed for children should be made about them, so they can relate to the story similar to the method used when writing scripts for TV shows and movies. With the electronics on the market today, comic books have to compete for the spot of entertainment in a child’s eyes.…
As a child, Alex enjoyed newspaper comics. He and his sister would trace the comics and add their own captions. Alex Pardee has always been drawn (no pun intended) to “different” art, whether it be old movies like The Dark Crystal and Star Wars, graffiti, skateboard art, or the likes of Strawberry Shortcake. The first twisted comic that captured his interest was The Maxx, created by Sam Keith. Before he found The Maxx, he never took a liking to comic books, thinking they were all superhero nonsense. This dark, untidy comic about the tragic happenings of a teenage girl changed his view of the comic industry as a whole and inspired his own twisted, powerful, unkempt style.…
Missing’s story is simple, an ordinary woman called Lily, has flashbacks of memories such as her wedding day, learning how to dance flamenco, parties she’s attended and parents' rows. Spanish and English had similar motivations for exploration of the New World, such as gaining land, goods from the natives, and gold. However, their motivations also differ greatly. The Spanish conquistadors also gained slaves from the native people, as well as spreading the word of Christianity. The English settlers came to the New World to get away from the religious oppression in England and to practice religion freely, and to grow tobacco to send back to England. The Spanish gained much more land quickly because, upon landing in places like the Caribbean and Brazil, because of their conquering and enslaving of the natives. The English came to the New World much less prepared, having loads of ships carrying rich, upperclassmen who were not capable of survival in unsettled lands.…
The term extraordinary can apply to many things. The definition of extraordinary is an object that is “very unusual and deserving attention”. The House of the Scorpion deserves to be called extraordinary because it spins a masterful literary web that will not set you free until you finish the last page with a satisfied sigh. Because of the moralistic issues she cunningly weaves into the book, the excellent literary language, and her cautionary take on the future, Farmer will never disappoint her readers as she spins her dispute between right and wrong.…
While starting we have to know what Comics are. Comics are ‘pictorial narrative’ or ‘visual narrative’. It is a sequence of separate images and tells several stories which are moral. It is actually an art of picture that speaks without any sound. By seeing comic images we can understand what it is actually say. The narrative can be understood without getting the picture. Prehistoric people painted scenes on the walls of their caves and the thought of comics came from this. The history of comics is profoundly linked to the history of art.…
Washington D.C. is the capital of the United States of America and the president of the United States lives there. It can be say that the Washington D.C. is the capital city of the world. Washington D.C. is a rich and expensive city with beautiful architectures and nature, and respectful community and residents with high security services. I lived and visited many countries, also I visited some other states and cities in the United States, but the Washington D.C. was different than all of them. They spend a lot of money for the architecture, services, facilities and transportation. The visitors especially in the governmental building can see and feel the wealth and the money that they spend for building the buildings, that is what we really…
