Analysing my story board
We are reading Great Expectations and our task was to storyboard the opening scene where Pip encounters he convict, Magwitch, for the first time. I am going to analyse 3 of the 8 frames. First of all, I am going to look at Frame number one, this is where Pip is at the cemetery mourning over his lot family. I decided to show Pip at the cemetery looking at his parents and his brother’s graves. I did this because it shows a clear and rich understanding of the first few sentences where it explains of what is going on. I did a view from a distance which sows Pip and 7 graves on a cold dejected day. On the viewer I hope to have the effect of him feeling sorry for Pip and understanding how Pip is feeling. Now I will comment on Frame 4. This is where a man comes into the scene. This man makes us feel remorseful for him and terrified of him. I decided to add this as one of my scenes and this scene plays a major part in the first chapter in Great Expectations. This is where the suspense kicks in. Without this scene the first opening scenes of Great Expectations would be boring so this is why I added it. I want the viewer to have mixed emotions for the person. Be angry as he is picking on Pip and also how he looks. He looks like he’s had a rough time. In this scene a man jumps out on Pip and starts picking on him and shouting until get gets serious and the chapter ends on a cliff hanger. This view is panning from close to distant to close. Finally, in Frame number 8 when the man turns Pip upside down and a piece of bread falls out. The man eats it violently and after quotes “How big and fat Pip’s cheeks are.” Giving the impression he wished to eat him. I added this scene to let all the readers out there know how terrified Pip must feel and what they’d do in his position. This scene is right at the end of the first opening chapter and it leaves us on a cliff – hanger. This is one of the main this that is used to draw the
