Anthem Essay Prometheus, of Greek mythology, was a Titan, the forerunners of the Greek gods, who stole fire from Zeus and gave the fire to mortals. Prometheus was horribly punished for this crime against Zeus and against order. He was also the god of forethought and the molder of humankind from clay. It was his desire to better the existence of humans that led to his conflicts with Zeus. And Prometheus was a man punished in the underworld by being shackled to a rock and having his organs eaten by vultures every day to have them grow back the next. Gaea was a Protogenos goddess, one of the original deities connected with the original primeval elements of the universe. Some of these were Earth, Air, Sea, Sky, Fresh Water, Underworld, Darkness, Night, Light, Day, Procreation, and Time. Gaea is the mother of Earth, the begetter of the universe. Her anthropomorphic depiction shows her as being at one with and inseparable from the Earth: her legs remain only partially risen from the ground. And Gaea is mother earth in the Ancient Greek religion. She and Time had baby titans that had babies that are the main gods. She is the 'creator' if you want to look at it in that way, she and Cronus made the universe. In the book mythology Gaea is the Earth goddess. She mated with her son Uranus to produce the remaining Titans. Gaea seems to have started as a neolithic earth-mother worshipped before the Indo-European invasion that eventually lead to the Hellinistic civilization. In the book mythology Prometheus was the wisest Titan. His name means "forethought" and he was able to foretell the future. He was the son of Iapetus. When Zeus revolted against Cronus Prometheus deserted the other Titans and fought on Zeus side. By some accounts he and his brother Epimetheus were delagated by Zeus to create man. In all accounts, Prometheus is known as the protector and benifactor of man. He gave mankind a number of gifts including fire. He also tricked Zeus into allowing man to keep the best part of the animals scarificed to the gods and to give the gods the worst parts. For this Zeus punished Prometheus by having him chained to a rock with an eagle tearing at his liver. He was to be left there for all eternity or until he agreed to disclose to Zeus which of Zeus children would try to replace him. He was eventually rescued by Hercules without giving in to Zeus.

Prometheus was the kindest of all the Titans or even the gods, but one day, Zeus ordered that everyone was forbidden to interact with the humans. Prometheus could not stand to see humans- let alone anything- suffer and to watch them go extinct because Zeus threw a fit, so he gave the humans fire in order to live. When Zeus found out about it, he became enraged and killed him a hundred times, then chained the titan to a large tree, only to watch mankind. Then, as he was not satisfied, Epimetheus’ story comes into place: Zeus asked Athena to make him a daughter, and after she did so, he called her Pandora, and offered her as a wife to Prometheus’ brother. After he accepted, Zeus gave them a beautiful box as a wedding gift, which had a note that read “DO NOT OPEN” which was obeyed for many months. One day while her husband was not home, Pandora’s curiosity got the best of her, so she opened it, and all the terrible things in the world flew out, no matter how fast she closed it. Famine, disease, murder, and much more flew out of the box, making her sad. But following everything, a small bug crawled out of the box, and smiled at the woman. The bug was named…

Gaea gave birth to her children without a partner, Uranus (Father Sky), Ourea (Mountains) and Pontus (Sea) and so the world began. Uranus and Gaea were equals and married each other. They had their children, which were three Hundred-Handed Giants and three Cyclopes. Uranus feared his children and band then into the deepest part of Gaea, who is technically the Earth, until they were trapped in Tartarus, the underworld. A significant theme in the Myth of Prometheus is that gods and titans can have mortal feelings. “Prometheus, proud of the beautiful thing of his own creation, wanted to give Man a worthy gift, but no gift remained for him.” This quote shows that Prometheus is proud of his work that he had made and wanted to give him something. “Prometheus looked to Zeus in vain; he did not have compassion for Man. Prometheus pitied Man, and thought of a power belonging to the gods alone.” This quote shows that Zeus does not care for Man and that Prometheus felt bad for Man, his creation and that Prometheus is willing to take a power that only belonged to gods. Prometheus snuck to Olympus and lighted a hollow torch and brought it Man. Man could make anything with fire. However, Zeus saw this and decided to punish Prometheus for sharing the gods’ own scared power and also decided to punish Man with Pandora. This shows the anger that Zeus had when he found out that Prometheus stole the gods’ power and gave it to Man.…
