has a Southeastern Climate, all the cities in this area enjoy similar mild temperatures, and as a result is a comfortable place to live. Due to the warm temperatures in the Great Lakes- St.
Lawrence Lowlands, the region has a long growing season, and fertile soil allowing a wide range of species to exist. As a result, the Great Lakes- St. Lawrence Lowlands is good farmland. In fact, according to Bruce W. Clarke, the Great Lakes- St. Lawrence Lowlands is one of the most important agricultural areas in Canada, producing much of the agriculture used within Canada. (Clarke, 2015) With food being produced locally or close by in the Great Lakes- St. Lawrence Lowlands, food is fresher and cheaper for those who live in the area, as the goods are shipped a smaller distance. Thanks to the Great Lakes and the St. Lawrence River, the Great Lakes- St. Lawrence Lowlands has a surplus of freshwater used for not only agriculture, but also recreation and basic needs. In fact, according to the Government of Ontario, Ontario contains one-fifth of the world’s freshwater (Government of Ontario, 2016). With water so readily available, this basic need is cheap and easy to access. Having mild temperatures, fertile soil and a surplus of freshwater, along with almost 60 percent of the entire Canadian population, it is clear that the Great Lakes- St. Lawrence Lowlands supports human activities well, and that the area could easily be considered the best region to live in
Canada.
