Some of these children have disabilities. Do you think people's perceptions of others play a role in the success of children with disabilities? Why or why not? Yes, I do, especially the perception teacher have of children with disabilities. When teachers do not look at children’s disabilities, and only look at the child, and what the child needs in order to succeed in their classroom, I believe it makes for a more rewarding environment for both the student and the teacher. When a teacher truly cares about their students it shows in the success of their entire classroom. When teachers look at their disability as a hindrance, and a bother, they are less likely to work and accommodate for the student, which lowers the students’ self-esteem as well as shows the other students in the classroom that that student is not as valuable as the others.…
The group facilitation of Jaeger’s and Bowman’s Understanding Disability was well executed. The groups’ use of games during the presentation to test students’ pre- and post- knowledge of disability policy was an innovative use of learning tools that engaged the class. The discussion of the history of federal disability policies was accurate and laid a foundation for the ensuing discussions about how social workers can play a critical role in addressing the injustice many differently abled Americans have suffered because of the hidden history you shed light on.…
Robots help all over the country. They help in ways like cleaning things or watching areas. People are making new types of robots to do new things. Kemps Landing Old Donation School also used some robots. The task with the robot was to make the robot perform a service. The robot called the Fantastic Feeder robot provides a service, it improves the quality of human life, and it helps socially and economically.…

Although this case does not directly apply to those with disabilities, it did help set a precedent with regards to the treatment of individuals in a school setting. As future teachers, we are required by law to treat all children with the same dignity and respect. That would also include those with mental or physical disabilities that may be in the school system. Not only is it required, but in order to have a positive classroom, we must put aside our own prejudices to help all of our students to be productive members of society. We also have to make sure that the children in our classrooms show each other respect.…
The Education for All Handicapped Children Act of 1975 states that all children with disabilities had the right to a free and appropriate education. As a teacher, it is my duty to know and understand my students and each of their needs. By law, all students with disabilities have the right to an…
One passion we as educators all share is the love for our students. Those of us who chose the path of working with special education students especially know that genuine place we have in our hearts for teaching students disabilities with learning disabilities. Over the last few decades, more awareness about these disabilities has florist throughout our nation. Many advocates of their time have fought to educate these students in order to help them overcome their struggle. Over time we see the long protect the rights of the students and provide them with the restrictive environment settings in order to provide an equal but adequate education. Despite the fact services are an essential part of protecting a student with special needs rights; it cannot be at the cost of their education either. If the student is able to complete the work at the same annual yearly progress as the general education population, proper services whether it be assistive technology or a personal aide, must be provided to the student. The services not only help students’ with special needs successfully graduate school but it provides them a promising future. Graduating with the tools and knowledge needed to survive on their own, students are now becoming functioning members of our society. As the candidate for my interview, I chose Dr.Gerard Crisinino, special education director of Jersey City Pubic School. He has instilled within him that compassion for working with these children and dedicated the last 30 years of his life to providing services for those students in need. Therefore, he was the perfect advocate to answer the following interview questions.…
A con that has raised much concern about the use of inclusion within the classroom is that teachers are not properly trained nor receive adequate support to teach a student with a disability. With teachers already struggling to provide appropriate education for students without disabilities due to rigorous standards and mounting pressure to perform, with such a large burden it becomes unrealistic for teachers to provide the attention needed and deserved for disabled students within a regular education classroom. With lack of training in specialized education areas, teachers are unable to properly serve disabled children and in turn these students are unable to receive an appropriate education accompanied by specialized attention and care needed in order to suitably benefit educationally.…
They state that disable learners must not be disadvantaged in education and very important to make sure that the learners are not unfairly treated in assessment situations. Colleges have an obligation to anticipate the needs of the learners and to make reasonable adjustment, and if we are enabling them they won’t receive a fair chance when they are on their own and you’re unavailable to provide assistance. Important factors to remember is to allow the disabled the same opportunity by given the access to a computer so they are able to navigate, provide them with learning materials and allow them to solve the answers on their own. This does not mean you cannot provide some assistance but you have to allow them to be…

I would want to provide her with every way to allow her to effectively communicate with her peers and in class. If Sally and her mom would feel comfortable, I would like to educate the class on Sally and her disability. I feel this would help the students become more sensitive to Sally when she is trying to communicate. If Sally was becoming frustrated with tasks that she was unable to complete, I would provide alternative ways in helping her accomplish her work. I would also want Sally to feel welcome and a part of my class. I would want her to feel that she can tell me if something wasn’t working for her and if there was something that she really enjoyed. I would want to create an environment that made her feel as if her disability didn’t define what she could do, but she could adapt situations to meet the needs of her…
The book stated the need for children with disabilities to gain social competence. It also stated that this skill will help children with disabilities to gain acceptance from their peers which will further allow them to develop friendships. This concept to me is not stated correctly, in that I find it a little insulting. I think society need to shift their focus from doing whatever it take to “fix” people with disabilities to the focus of also teaching typical children without disabilities to learn to accept and socialize with other children unlike themselves. I truly believe that as a society we can benefit from interacting with people who are different from us. The book also stated the important of the problem I mentioned above , which is the integration of children with or without disabilities to engage in the classroom together and to learn about the different disabilities. By so doing, I believe that society can slowly but surely change all the ugly perceptions about children with disabilities and kill all the misconceptions and stereotypes. As a future Occupation therapist, I can help advocate on this matter by educating my clients, running a group about the topic or make brochures to bring attention to the…
For years now Disney has been mostly known for their princess movies like Snow White, and Cinderella. In the Disney world they never really actually tell the villains side of the story, and how they came to be. Maleficent is one of the most recognized villains in the Disney world. In 1959 there was a movie made called Sleeping Beauty. It was about a princess who is cursed into an eternal sleep by Maleficent because of the anger Maleficent had against her family. In 2014 the movie Maleficent came out it showed her perspective of the sleeping beauty story. Although the films…
