Greed In The Adventure Of The Speckled Band
In the story, The Adventure of the Speckled Band, Sherlock Holmes is not responsible for the death of Dr. Grimsby Roylott. Dr. Roylott allowed greed to overtake him; he attempted to kill both of his step-daughters before they got married, and succeeded in one attempt. His motive was to keep his wealth and not lose £250 for each marriage. He received his justified punishment when he was killed by the snake after murdering Julia and attempting to kill Helen. Greed made Dr. Roylott think of only himself and not the consequences of his actions, a trait that is not desirable. Even if he was not caught for the death of his step-daughters, he would have likely tried to take extreme measures again for the sake of money. The greedier he became, the

“The Adventure of the Speckled Band by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, a mystery story, was more interesting than its movie version because it has more details of the characters and places, that give you a better understanding of the story. In the book there are more details about the places that the characters go, so that helps you to get a better picture of what is going on. For example in the book It describes Stoke Moran as a decrepit ,old ,rundown estate, but in the movie the mansion is in pretty good condition the grounds are beautiful. Whereas in comparison the grounds in the book are dying and brown, so clearly the book has more detail about the places then the movie simply because it's longer and you can really picture what it looks like…

Conflicts somehow also started through greed , that are often seen in states with negative economic growth and/or systemic poverty, as this implies limited state capacity to provide opposition groups with economic concessions as well as the likelihood of the absence of an effective military or police apparatus to contend with those seeking power or resources. The phrase "greed versus grievance" or "greed and grievance" refer to the two baseline arguments put forward by scholars of armed conflict on the causes of civil war.…

According to the police audio exposed in the documentary, Holmes did not resist arrest and was instead waiting for police to arrive and apprehend him. Undoubtedly, the suspect’s purpose in this heartless deed was incarceration. But when asked what the motive was during the interview, the chief did not go into details and instead answered “we are not speculating on motive”. Again, no one able to shed some light here. Whatever the motive may be, the suspect was sentenced to life in prison.…

Then, Holmes tells Watson that he faked his death and then went into hiding until the police have arrested Moriarty’s gang. This use of disguises Holmes once again deceived the world and fed society false news of how Lestrade apprehended the last member of Moriarty’s gang. Holmes states that his involvement in the case is to be a secret, which leaves society still deeming Holmes dead. In Conclusion, I think all of these facts are enough evidence to prove my statement of Sherlock. So the three main reason why Sherlock Holmes did the wrong thing are. First of all, Sherlock let the thieves go after committing a crime. Seconded of all, He blamed the innocent plumber who had a family to look after. Third of all, Doing something and getting away with it could make you do it again since you got away with it. So I believe Sherlock Holmes did the wrong…

Sherlock Holmes is a very strange man. He is a detective who can solve a mystery without even seeing what seems to be like too much evidence. His ethics are very interesting. He believes that murder cases turn out to have very complex ways of happening. He does not believe in the solar system, which the narrator thought was very weird. His decision to join the case to help was a just decision, because without him the case wouldn’t have been solved correctly. Holmes seems to always stick with his beliefs, not matter what the situation was, even after the case seemed like it was solved.…

for the good of humanity or just the good of one's loved ones every hero has a cause. Sherlock Holmes seems like an obvious hero but he doesn't really care about saving or protecting people. It seems the only thing Sherlock cares about is working and solving the cases because it is fun for him to have a challenge. But Sherlock does seem to have an internal struggle whether to fight for good or to prove his intelligence according to the author of (sherlock character confessions by Raven Simmons). “Sherlock seems to be divided by the urge to defeat Moriarty because he is a criminal and it would simply be the right thing to do r to defeat Moriarty simply to win a challenge made against his intelligence; basically, as a battle of wits”. So it seems that there may be some kind of good conscience inside of this man. Even though he is a kind of strange man that keeps to himself he does try to help others though it may seem he has selfish reasons for helping. I believe that he is a true hero when you hear someone talk about the great Sherlock Holmes you think of a mysterious british man with quick wits that fights crime for good. He is an iconic hero in british literature that everyone…

The overarching theme in "Godfather Death" by Jacob & Wilhelm Grimm reminds us that greed will always be one's demise and it is impossible to cheat death. Consequently he chooses the devil as the suitable godfather, since he says death treats all men equally. In the novel Jack Stapleton, the other villain that I will be discussing, is trying to kill off all other heirs to Baskerville family estate and money so that he becomes the sole heir. Sherlock Holmes is hired to try and solve the mystery behind the death of Sir Charles Baskerville whom Jack Stapleton killed. Jack Stapleton, even though as black-hearted and clever as he is, proves no match for the great Sherlock Holmes who cracks the case. While these two novels are both seemingly different, both have a villain who is all-consumed with greed. In both of the stories Jack Merridew and Jack Stapleton let greed control their actions, thoughts, and how they lived, which drove them to kill and manipulate others and we should all learn from their…

Imagine stuffing a carbuncle down a striped goose and a few days later someone else takes the same goose with the same stripe on the back! Both a stole the goose and the jewel. Will the other person go to jail? Or will you get arrested and go to jail? Will the detective set them free? Yes! Sherlock Holmes sets both free! But for stealing a jewel and a goose? In my opinion, Sherlock Holmes positively made the wrong decision by letting Ryder and Catharine free. That means, Sherlock Holmes also broke the law! Sherlock should have never let them go, because no one never knows if Ryder and Catharine will commit another crime or not. If Ryder and Catharine do commit a crime again, then the siblings might do something ever bigger than before!…

Daisy is a great example of how greed can obstruct your judgement and morality. The fact that in the story, Daisy says "Rich girls don't marry poor guys" and "You don't have enough money for me to marry you", tells us that she is all about monetary gain, even if it's at the cost of true love. Even when Gatsby, the man she said those things to, shows back up in her life with a new-found wealth that he obtained solely so he could obtain Daisy's love, she turns him down and stays married to a man stuck in the ways of the "old…

“Angry? Yes, I’m angry; I’d be a lousy lawyer if I weren’t. I suppose it’s like I’ve got a permanent boil on my butt and can’t quite sit down. Which is not the same, you understand, as being hounded by greed; although I can see, of course, that is probably sometimes looked like greed to certain individuals who were not lawyers, when they saw a person like me driving all the way up there to the Canadian border, practically, way me camping out in the middle of winter in a windy dingy little motel room for weeks at a time, bugging the hell out of decent people who were in the depths of despair and just wanted to e left alone. I can understand that.”…
