The Greeks believed that certain deities (gods and goddesses) directed daily events and also watched over them. Families also presented offerings and ceremonies to please the gods. The most important god to the Greeks was Zeus, he ruled over Mount Olympus. He was be the god of the sky and the weather, and was considered to be one of the 7 wonders of the world. Phidias, a famous Greek sculptor carved a enormous
statue of Zeus made entirely of ivory. When Phidias was finished with the elaborate sculpture it sat on an ideal throne. Zeus was also the most celebrated statue in the ancient times. My next god is the son of Zeus and Leto and the twin of Artemis, his name is Apollo. He was the god of music, and he is often depicted of playing the golden harp. He is also known as the archer, for shooting the silver arrow; the god of medicine, bringing medicine to man and women; the god of truth and also of light. One of Apollo’s daily missions was to ride in a in his four-horse chariot to bring the sun across the sky. Apollo was born on Delos, where his mother found refuge to give birth to her son Apollo, because when Hera found out that Zeus ( Hera’s husband) was the father she banished Leto from giving birth on her land, so there for forcing Leto to Delos; that was not an originated island yet.
