Greek Influence On Society

The great Greek empire is one of the real definitions of starting small and growing into something enormous. The Greeks are probably one of the most well-known kingdoms in history. They have done things from being one of the worlds most educated and civilized cultures to having one of the fiercest militaries of all time. No one could speak about early world history without mentioning the Greek Empire. With all that being said the Greeks have had some of the greatest impacts on the world.

One way that the Greek empire influence us was with the Olympic Games. Similar to them we also have a current day Olympics. Every four years, every country put asides their differences to compete in a variety of games. We also stole the idea of the coliseum
The Greeks allowed male citizens of various social classes to vote on different matter of policy, but women and slaves couldn’t vote. This resemblance some of the early voting rule of the United States, which I found interesting. Greeks also used taxes throughout their empire, and much like majority of the world today if you didn’t pay there would be some type of consequence. Yet, when you hear anything about politics there must be some type on monarchy. Both modern day and the Greek’s government enforced their rules making sure no one got out of line.

In modern day time, you can find school systems all over the globe. The Greeks were ones to take extremely great pride in their education as well, due to a library of 700,000 volumes of books and the museum. Into day’s society you can find thousands of libraries from public to one strictly for college purposes, no matter which one they all serve the purpose of giving people a chance to learn more about different subjects.
