In “Green Roofs in Big Cities Bring Relief From Above,” Tina Rosenberg claims that large cities like New York City, face ecological problems dealing with their roofs, sewage systems, urban heat island, and air pollution that could easily be fixed or improved by green roofing.
Green roofing is the best alternative to black tar roofs. They include insulation, a waterproof membrane, a barrier to keep roots from creating holes, a drainage layer, a mat for erosion, soil, and finally the plants. Water runoff during rainstorms easily floods the sewers causing people to become ill.
