Green Sea Turtles are very unique, kind and harmless creatures. Although, some people do not understand their harmfulness. Many people, such as poachers, want to kill sea turtles for their meat, eggs and shell. Fortunately, people have started organizations that help and track sea turtles.
Green sea turtles, also known as Pacific Green Sea Turtles, Black Sea Turtles and Chelonia Mydas, their scientific name, belong to a scientific group called Cheloniidae, a group of sea turtles whose front limbs are stronger than their back limbs. Because Green sea turtles have a three-chambered heart, are cold-blooded, lay eggs, and breathe air from their lungs, they are classified as reptiles. All sea turtles that are part of the Cheloniidae group are classified as reptiles and vertebrates.
Green Sea Turtles are found in every ocean except the Arctic Ocean. Most sea turtles stay near islands, coastlines, bays and protected shores, especially in areas with seagrass beds. Most sea turtles are rarely observed in the open ocean. Green Sea Turtles live in the Sunlight Zone (Euphotic Zone), the uppermost zone in the ocean.
