One example of a monster that lurks is Grendel. Grendel is the enemy of Beowulf. Grendel wants to attack Beowulf, but he has to find the right time to do so. When Grendel finally decided to pounce on Beowulf, he ate a few soldiers, then came out of his shadows and attacked Beowulf with all of his might and power. But most monsters do not always win. In this case, Beowulf pinned Grendel up against the door and ripped off his arm. After that, Grendel’s mother came out of the shadows and tried to attack Beowulf to revenge her son’s death, but
Beowulf also won that fight.
Most times, monsters lurk in the shadows and wait to attack typically the good guy in the story. Except for that one rare, flawed occasion, the monsters typically lose to the good guy or epic hero in the story.
