"One more rep", called Dr. A over the speaker, but we had all heard that before. We spent months of long summer days and countless nights after school practicing, all to prepare for grand nationals. One of the first lessons they teach in marching band is that you will not go anywhere in life without grit. Hard work and passion are needed to reach goals and you cannot stop until you get there. This ideology has stuck with me, even after band. I use it every day, whether it is in school, sports, or other aspects of my life. Grit is the most important trait for success because it has been proven to be more important than intelligence or talent and can be used to predict achievement, but it is becoming less common in today's society.

Our culture is becoming more dependent on technology and people try to find the easiest way possible to get a job done. In some ways this is helpful, but it can also make people lazy and make them forget what is really important to them. Delayed gratification requires grit.
