I woke up at seven o’clock this morning feeling completely overwhelmed. My book signing is scheduled for today. I’m gripped with excitement and my nerves are raging, but in a good way. I’m in a new place in my life and the journey that got me here has not always been easy. Soon, all eyes and lips will be on me, even when I’m not in the room.…
I arrived to a church crowded with friends and family. So many people had gone to St. John’s Cathedral to witness the simple, yet elegant, tradition. There were also relatives from Mexico and Puerto Rico who took the long tiring trip to attend. I was honored to see so many people there on my special day. My court of honor led the way into the church. When it was my turn to walk down the aisle, soft music was played by the organist. I felt like a princess walking in my big, beautiful ball gown. My gown was similar to a wedding dress except it was a pastel pink. When the ceremony started it was nerve racking. I was thinking about my hair and people staring at me from behind, and hoping my tiara or…
I am unable to stop smiling as I hear the crowd cheer. I can hear my friends yell “Go Lynae!” I begin to wipe my face and be helped out of the pool. I was given a towel as I walk away. As I was walk to the bathroom Elena and I reunite and hug in happiness and renewal at what we had just done. After we hugged we walk back to the bathroom together and dry off. We then went back to our friends. Our friends greet us with open hands and smiles. In that moment I knew I was becoming who I wanted to be. These two people that I wanted to baptize me made me into the person I want to…
* I use a lot of hand gestures to help get my point across during the presentation…
Quality of the narrative: Was your storytelling strong and interesting? Was it easy to understand? How strong was your narrative compared to other speeches you heard this round? I thought my storytelling was interesting because not a lot of people experienced skydiving and I explained how the nervousness factored my view about skydiving, for strong I feel I could of done better by adding more to it like how I felt during the skydive and how I felt when I landed.…
I felt like such a looser I wanted to cry, but I couldn’t because everyone had their eyes on me feeling like a dam about to burst. This was probably the most embarrassing moment of my life as I was on that track. I was about to walk off the turf and not finish, but then I started to he rhythmic clap from the audience and I knew it was for me. At that moment I started to jog to finish line. I had two forces fighting within me one wanting me to give up and there wanting to keep going forward and not letting people down. If the audience can put the effort to cheer me on, the least I can do is finish. I finally finish and I have never been so happy to finish something in my life.…
After listening to my speech, audience members will learn how moving away from home has changed my life for the better.…
In sessions Lissa did not utilized many Materials, however she did have little resources that where always available in her office for both herself and the kids. Some of her resources that I found interesting were her chocolate jar, eraser tray, her box of toys, her confidentiality sign, her drawer of snacks.…
It was my point of view on the death penalty, so naturally it was a touchy subject to begin with. The nature of the topic made it more difficult for me to execute (no pun intended) my speech. I walked up to the podium, fixed my papers, and started reading. The class was silent. It felt like I was reading for hours, but it took me only 10 minutes. At the end of the speech, my teacher asked for opinions and critiques. One boy said he agreed with my point of view. Another girl said, "I admired how passionate you were about what you were saying." That comment built up my non-existent confidence. It made me come to terms with my problem. I then made it my personal mission to find a solution to this problem, or maybe I was still stuck in my Geometry class from first period, who knows. We did more and more presentations, sometimes alone and sometimes with a partner. My public speaking teacher was also a Drama teacher, so she wanted to incorporate a little part of her Drama class. The assignment was to read a monologue and act it out. Now, public speaking was hard enough for me, but acting in front of people was on a whole different level. I managed to complete the monologue without having a panic attack, so that was a good sign. By the time the school year was over, I had gotten more confident in my presentations. I could talk in front of a class without resembling a tomato! Mission…
My cheer squad had been anticipating this day for months, our first pep rally. That was the first day we got to wear our cheerleading uniforms to school. When I walked into the office doors that morning, Mrs. Smith ran in there to see my cheer uniform. As the day dragged along, it was just a class period away, and then I would be in front of the whole school cheering. Somehow, that had just come into my realization, and I was just…
I am now currently the treasurer of my FFA chapter officer team, and I have no problem to stand up in front of a room of my fellow peers to confidently give a speech. During my time on the officer team, I was able to put myself out there and reach out my comfort zone. Attending events all over the state of Texas, I gave speeches , talked one on one with others about my past experiences, and made sure that their time at these conventions was memorable. My duty as an FFA officer is to help others, and now I strive to apply that into my future career as an Elementary school teacher.…
I prepared myself to face my worst fear, public speaking. A speech alone was a daunting prospect. A speech alone in front of 12,000 people without a podium was seemingly impossible. This speech, however, represented my development throughout high school. The content reflected my experience and accomplishments as an FBLA member and an officer. My hand gestures, tone, even smile, were choreographed to the syllable, a tribute to my growth in planning and the hours spent practicing speaking for case studies and events.…
As I was going up to the stage to give my speech, I was welcomed by a loud cheer from the crowd. When I was about to give my speech, everyone rose up and saluted me. In that vast crowd I saw a man staring at me coldly without saluting. Although it was a huge disrespect towards me, I ignored it and I started my speech.…
I decided to stay in SRD through my sophomore and junior years; I gained so many qualities, opportunities, and accomplishments that I would have never thought possible as a fifth grader. One of the requirements for this class is to create a project. My sophomore year I was incredibly shy and nervous, and the fact that I had to present my project to my classmates and later on to judges in our school science fair made the class a bit discouraging. Against all odds, I placed 3rd place in Behavioral Sciences, and I advanced to compete against all the other high school of the region. Here I did not place but I can honestly say that that caused me to break out of my shell and become the person I am today. The year after that I would be one the best presenters in my class and later on in all my classes. I would place 1st in the school science fair and 3rd in my category against 40 other students. “3rd place in Behavioral and Social Sciences”: the title of one of my biggest accomplishments in my high school career. It is a reminder of the insecurities I overcame- one of them being public speaking. I also learned about how great a person is able to be even though there might be obstacles along the way. Today I am that student who volunteers to present and will work hard through any barrier to become…
Within a day of familiarising ourselves with each other, my group and I went gorge walking which greatly differed to my daily life; the entire experience allowed me to branch out of my comfort zone and acquire a new outlook on life. As a result of this, I became more sociable and confident which strengthened my public speaking skills when presenting to a large audience. My work experience in a nursery developed my understanding of a younger age range which allowed me to become a more responsible and adaptable individual. Additionally, I helped organise and participated in Christmas events in local care homes to increase community spirit, enabling me to further improve my leadership and responsibility…
