Group Observation Report
Flash Team meeting, Group therapy, and Documentation
Observation:
Entering treatment Flash Team meeting I noticed everything was pretty much the same except the unity I was on had some changes. The unit I was interning at used to be the Senior Care Unit , but now it switched to MedPsyc. The senior unit was preferably for senior citizens with mental illness and those who are medically compromised who need mental health treatment. Now with MedPsyc the unit is able to charge insurance companies for treatment of both physical illness and mental illness with the mental illness being the primary. As a result, anyone regardless of age have first preference of being admitted to the unit as long as they have a physical illness to accompany their mental illness.
Subjective:
It was nice being back knowing I was completing my last

Observation: This week we had a break through with one of the clients who was having a psychotic episode and was unable to bring herself to talk. I sat in on a therapy session with my site supervisor. We had difficulties finding a family member to talk to regarding the 19-year-old high school student discharge plan, so I decided to call the school. This helped because we were able to get more information from the school social worker and contact a family member to help with discharge planning and transportation.
Subjective:
It was great to be able to create solutions for the client’s treatment. Some of the employees thought that it was not going to help them, but I was happy the results were in the client’s favor.

Week: January 25,2016-Januar 28, 2016
Activity:
On this week I led group, documented clinical notes on patients, went to Flash, had supervision, and met with patients for one to one.

    Aa Meeting Analysis

The only meetings I had ever experienced were the ones in movies and TV shows, which was completely different from what I experienced. The main difference from this meeting to most is the fact that it was being held by college students. It’s a shock to imagine that people the same age as I are having to deal with such difficulties when they haven’t experienced life to its fullest yet. They got swept up in the experience of “college” that they now must live with those mistakes for the rest of their lives. I think that by it being such a small group, it is easier to really get the help you need instead of being in a room full of people all talking about their problems. I talked to one of the members afterward and asked if they have ever been to other meetings, and they said no. I then asked if they liked the fact that it is just the four of them, and they said they wouldn’t want it any other way. They said that since it is a smaller group it is easier to communicate their feelings to each other without feeling like they are just another voice in the crowd. They also brought up the point that they do not feel rushed to say their part so that everyone can speak, they just take their time and say everything they have been dying to say. Like we have discussed in class, communication has such an impact on a person’s mental healing process. Since it is easier for this group to communicate amongst each other…

PART ONE – What method of evangelism did you use and how did you start the conversation? I used the Friendship method; I was drawn to that method because of the person in which I choose to witness to. My son was not my first choice, but it happen just as it was supposed to. I questioned the friendship method at first, but I came to understand friendship was just a metaphor for friends, family, stranger, and anyone else whom could fit into that category. I picked my son, because I felt he was the right person at that moment to witness to. He and I were engaged in a conversation about angel. Not the angel who are in Heaven, but the angel which there was a TV show that he and I use to love to watch once upon a time. Anyway, he was watching the DVD of the show in his room. There was a part that triggered his curiosity, so he came to ask me a question about it. I knew that was my opportunity to witness to him since he was already on the page about demons. I asked my son what if all of that was true about what was going on in the show, he said some of it is true. I asked him what part he thinks is true, he responded. The part when angel lost his soul. I asked him if angel lost his soul for real what would happen. He said they showed what would happen on the show, angel became a beast named Angelis. After that answer, I asked him, can I share something with you, he said share what? How good God is. “God is a good God; He is always there for you and me. He will give you everything your heart desire, all you have to do is ask. All he asks for in return is your love and devotion to him and only him. He said, you always ask me that. Then, I asked him do he believe Jesus died on the cross for our sins, he answered yes. Do you ever think about giving your life to the Lord? I began to tell him; remember when I told you I received Christ as my savior? It was a life changing experience for me; all kinds of…

I spent my morning with Kathy Sullivan in the Primary Care Mental Health department at the VA hospital. Kathy’s job is to screen Veterans who are referred for a mental health assessment by their primary care providers. A Veteran’s physician will meet with them for annual visits and/or any other medical care that the Veteran requires. During their visit, if the physician at any time feels the Veteran is in need of a mental health assessment, they will send the patient over to Kathy’s office or have Kathy come over and meet with the patient to ensure that a visit is scheduled before the Veteran leaves the building. This ensures that Veterans are receiving help physically and mentally as well.…

This week I was in 1600, which I have not been on since my first semester. In this floor you see more post surgical patients. I liked the new environment and being exposed to different nurses and types of patients. I was able to take care of 3 patients and feel confident in what I was doing. I believe that because my preceptorship is coming up soon, I have set my mind to think more independently along with feeling more secure in my nursing skills and assessments. PART ONE – What method of evangelism did you use and how did you start the conversation? The method of evangelism that I used was the Apostles Evangelism. The reason why I choose this type of evangelism is because it gives the entire plan of salvation including the baptism. This plan of salvation gives scriptures throughout not just one particular book in the bible. We had a teenager to come and visit our church and I knew by one of the members that the teenager has had some difficult situations in her family life and all she had left is to try Jesus. The member wanted me to talk with the teenager about salvation. I started the conversation out by asking, “Have you received the Holy Ghost since you believed?” Some situations one has to be very direct and this one of these situations. The teenager stated she has not received the Holy Ghost. I then asked if she has been baptized in Jesus name. The teenager stated that she has not; various scriptures in Acts were read to her. There are other scriptures to back up the book of Acts such as I Corinthians, Romans and Galatians but time and the situation did not permit to go into other books of the Bible.…

The second week of my preceptorship brought many new experiences for me, and I can honestly say that each day I spend with my preceptor is better than the last. This week I focused on time management of a full patient load with continued documentation practice as well as admission and discharge procedures. I’ve had brief experiences in my past rotations assisting with discharge teaching and admission assessments however I have never been able to fully take charge and complete the process from start to finish, so this was a great learning opportunity for me.…

The group I chose to observe was an alcoholics anonymous group. I chose this as the group to observe because it relates to this field of work and also I have family members whom I attend meetings with for support. There are different types of AA groups. The most common two are open meetings, and closed meetings. Open meetings are meetings where speakers tell how they drank, how they discovered AA, and how its program has helped them. Members may bring relatives or friends to open meetings. Closed meetings are for alcoholics only. These are group discussions, and any members who want to may speak up, to ask questions and to share their thoughts with other members. The primary purpose of AA is to stay sober and to help others achieve sobriety.…
