An event that marked my transition from childhood to adulthood would be the day I moved to the United States From Dominican Republic four years ago. I was fourteen years old when my family and I decided to change our lives. My mother always wanted a better future for our family., therefore she decided this would be the best for all of us. At first it was indubitable difficult for me to become accustomed to a new country, leaving the rest of my family behind. A country where I was required to learn a new language and learn so many new things to improve not only the way I was in school but also learn how to improve myself internally. It was a challenge, but I am proud to say that even if I had atrocious days where people criticized me by reason…

Transitions to adulthood are usually positive events, be they quinceneras, bat mitzvahs, or just getting older. Most people see transitioning into adulthood as something beautiful and amazing. Unfortunately, what people fail to understand is that not everyone’s life is exactly the same, and we all manage to fall into that assumption that it happens at the same time for everyone, and nobody ever comes out with any negative results.…

My seventh grade soccer season was amazing and I looked forward to my eighth grade soccer season because I would hopefully be on varsity then. When the soccer season came this year, I made varsity. I had improved a lot throughout the year and my hard work had paid off - I played left forward each game and was the top scorer for the second year in a row. Overall, I am glad that I was on junior varsity because the season was amazing. Every time I am in a seemingly disappointing situation, it could lead to something more…

Freshman year was exciting, because of finally being in the high school. Soon realizing that almost everyone thinks you are stupid and want nothing to do with you. Between that and being confused on where to go, what to do, and when to shut up, it was nerve wrecking to say the least. Thinking you are a stud and the coolest kids around does not really help with the upper classmen. Being able to participate in high school sports just makes the experience all the better and going to homecoming and formal was a blast. No worries besides school and what you were going to do that weekend with your friends. Being able to drive anywhere you pleased made you feel all the more free.…

I recently heard a quotation from a pediatrician who was stating: “It is ten times more difficult being a child than an adult, due to the many possibilities and choices you ought to be making”. Now, my own thesis on this is, when you are a teenager, you can multiply the diffuculty by a factor of fifty. A lot of young people find it very strenous taking the last step towards adulthood and their own independence. Especially when you have parents that, unconsciously or not, do not allow you to do so.…
