Question#4 : In today’s environment, which is more important to organizations—efficiency or effectiveness? Explain your choice.
Answer: As a beginning, management involves coordinating and overseeing the work activities of others so that their work activities are completed efficiently and effectively.
So, there's no way to say that one of these (efficiency, effectiveness) is more important than the other. No organization can succeed in today's highly competitive world unless it's both efficient and effective.
An efficient organization is the one that produces the most output from the least amount of inputs and this is important in today's world. For example: if an organization can't produce efficiently, it can't compete other organizations because they will be producing things at lower prices.
On the other hand, an effective organization is the one that does the right things. It's an organization that gives the customers what they want, and this is also important in today's world. If this organization is good at making things well and at low cost will still fail if it's making things that people no longer want. For example: KODAK that's making film cameras is not going to succeed in today's world of digital cameras.
As a conclusion, the organization can't succeed if it's not both efficient and effective, because both efficiency and effectiveness lead to good management and in turn good management leads to success which is the first goal of any
