Gryphon And Pleiades Society
Looking at the current members of the Gryphon & Pleiades society, I notice there are no biology majors. I would like to incorporate science into current or a new project to help the community. I would like to help implement a science club that works with the local schools teaching students about science and scientific careers. Many think science is a dry unrelatable topic, but can be engaging across cultures through its synthesis with subjects like mathematics and geography. I not only think this would improve leadership on the Clark campus, but in the local community as well.

Morrow’s professional contributions have been and continue to be filled with a desire to help students as well as focused on mentoring young professionals. During her tenure at Gallaudet she was involved in mentoring junior faculty, teaching assistants and student laboratory teachers. Her desire to nurture and help young people continued into her retirement as she is now serving as a STEM Program Director for the DC Metropolitan area HBCU Alumni Alliance. Objectives of the STEM workshop are to provide opportunities for the students to conduct experiments with graduates of HBCUs who are currently working in STEM-related occupations. The Delian league was formed around 480 B.C.E when the Persian invasion of Greece was repelled. The Athenians and other Greeks were uncertain if the Persians would attack them again and so they decided to form the league (Brand, P. J. (n.d.)). I think this was a great idea because the Greeks and Athenians would be prepared in terms of acquiring war machinery, creating good offensive and defensive strategies and also establishing a great solid relationship among the people. This would help them fight back and not suffer greater losses like the previous wars they had fought in.…

1: In classical Greek civilization, people interacted with the environment. People used the Mediterranean basin in many different ways. One reason was for irrigation, which produced fertile soil throughout the land and made agriculture great in this society. Some of the plants they grew were olives and grapes. These were soon turned into olive oil and wine, which was a very popular item to trade. This basin was also used as a travel route, which did spread cultures around the areas.…

Being a leader in 4-H, I have taken on many roles to make the 4-H experience a memorable and very enjoyable. One of my more recent projects was creating a six week Cloverbud Science Club. After school, the cloverbuds in the Perham School District would come to the Science Club and learn various science topics including space, water, and chemistry. I prepared the lesson, taught, and cleaned up. Besides teaching, I became a quick problem solver when it came to a conflict. I learned how long the youth could focus on a project and how to explain the results from their experiments. This science program was the first taste of 4-H many of these students had, but it made their 4-H experience a fun and memorable journey. By implementing these programs,…

In my perfect world it would be democratic, and there would be no slaves or any type of social class. Unfortunately, excluding the time of creation, the world is not and has never been perfect. In Ancient Greece there were four different social classes. The privileged upper-class were those that ruled Athens. Native by birth they enjoyed social excess and great wealth. The upper class were practically the head of all enterprise and endeavour and were referred to as natives. The Middle class was next in the hierarchy. Not born to privilege in Athens they were referred to as the metrics and generally came from surrounding regions to settle and work in Athens. The metrics were free people having never been slaves. They enjoyed as…

On April 20, 1999, two Columbine High School students, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, went on a shooting rampage in Colorado, killing 12 students and a teacher before ending their own lives (Leftwich 1). Nearly seven years later there seemed to be an annual shooting rampage trend. On October 2, 2006 a gunman by the name of Charles Carl Roberts IV took hostage five girls, at an Amish schoolhouse in Pennsylvania, and eventually shot and killed them before committing suicide (“5th Girl” 1-2). The following year, on April 16, 2007, Seung-Hui Cho, a college student, shot and killed 32 people at Virginia tech before taking his own life (Leftwich 1). The rampages did not end there, on February 14, 2008, a gunman shot multiple people on the campus…

Co founding the science club has given me a new sense of responsibility that I lacked before. It made me think about not only myself but also members and what was in the best interest of the club. In the beginning it was really crazy organizing an event for every week but eventually we started having fun and working as a whole. This has also taught me that I am not always right.…

There are reports of abuse in nursing homes every year. There are many types of abuse reported as well. Even though there are many reports there are also many cases that are not reported. Elderly being abused puts them in an even more vulnerable position that what they were in. They now have to fear for their lives from the people who should be taking care of them. With reported cases and non-reported cases the abuser is rarely punished which makes the situation much worse. Elder abuse in nursing homes has grown at an alarming rate and not being reported and I firmly believe that the punishment should be increased for these abusers such as licenses being pulled and state stepping in more to investigate.…
