01_A3_ 20 years from now

I chose the technology of Refrigeration to think about twenty years from now. A refrigerator Is a common household appliance that consist of a thermally insulated compartment and a heat pump ( mechanical, electronic, or chemical) that transfers heat from inside of the fridge to its external environment so that the inside of the fridge is cooled to a temperature below the ambient temperature of the room. A refrigerator is a common essential technology apart of our everyday living. It is extremely useful to keep food from spoiling by slowing down the rate of bacterial growth by staying a few degrees’ above the freezing point of water, as well as purifying water and creating ice. Refrigeration units have come a long way since their predecessor the ice box and before the ice was the ice house, which was basically a shelter dedicated to keeping food as cold as possible placed near a glacier run off, stream or anywhere seemingly to be the most ideal location. Since around 1913 when refrigeration units were made to mount on top of an ice box an essential part of living was being introduced to Americans. It was actually a year later when Nathaniel B. Wales of Detroit, Michigan introduced the idea of a practical electric refrigeration unit, which later became the basis for the Kelvinator and self contained refrigerator. Three years past the mounted ice box unit, inventor and philanthropist Alfred Mellowes improved his design model of the Kelvinator and added a compressor to the bottom of the cabinet. Soon Commercial refrigerators are ready to be sold to millions of Americans who will soon notice the convenience and worth of their own Frigidaire refrigerator appliance. Thus began a race of sorts to take technology of refrigeration to its peaks domestic and foreign. In 1918 the first automatic refrigerator unit was available by the Kelvinator Company; this was extremely popular for a few years until the absorption

There are two basic methods for ice crystal formation in solutions of liquid foods as shown in Fig 2, according to Aider et al. (2009), The first method is suspension crystallization figure 3a; it is containing on an initial phase of nucleation, followed by a second phase that includes the growth of ice nuclei in the solution. The second method is the film crystallization of water that present in the solution in the form of an ice layer on a cold surface (Flesland, 1995).…

The problem that our product intends to solve is keeping people’s food and beverages the temperature they want on the go. Hot food can go cold and cold food can get too hot, forcing people to quickly find a fridge or microwave to heat or warm up their foods. Even then, things can go wrong, such as food going bad such as mayonnaise, and ice cream melting to a liquid. The lunchboxes of today are pretty much exactly the same as they would have been 50 years ago, with no major advancements in a food carrying case which is so widespread for people to bring in food from home. Our product will change the game on how people carry their lunches, especially in the winter and summer months. Our battery powered composite heater and refrigeration system will allow people’s lunches to be conveniently heated or cooled. It will even make it possible to bring ice cream from home.…

Around 1935, Jones designed a portable air-cooling unit for trucks carrying perishable food, and received a patent for it on July 12, 1940. Numero sold his movie sound equipment business to RCA and formed a new company in partnership with Jones, the U.S. Thermo Control Company (later the Thermo King Corporation) which became a $3 million business by 1949. Jones's air coolers for trains, ships, and aircraft made it possible for the first time to ship perishable food long distances during any time of the year. Portable cooling units designed by Jones were especially important during World War II, preserving blood, medicine, and food for use at army hospitals and on battlefields.…

After conducting my experiment, the results have led me to the conclusion that the ice water cooled the soda the fastest. This happened because the melting ice uses energy. Though water that is in the process of freezing gives off energy, melting ice cubes absorb energy. This means that when the ice is melting, it is absorbing energy from the soda, therefore causing it to lose energy and make its molecules slow down and freeze. This is why the soda cooled the fastest in the ice water; its energy was decreasing. In the refrigerator, the soda was just sitting in cold air. The same thing happened with the freezer. In the bucket of ice, nothing was making the ice melt quickly so it wasn’t using a lot of energy. This is why the ice water cooled…

During the seventeenth century in England, outside temperatures reached so low during the winter that it is actually considered to be a “mini ice age” by scientists today. During this time, people were still somewhat fatalistic and believed that cold was an act of god, and that people should just leave it alone. That was until an alchemist named Cornelius Drebbel came along. Drebbel bet the King he could turn summer into winter by chilling the air in the Great Hall of Westminster. Drebbel did so by using ordinary table salt, which will lower the temperature at which ice melts, to keep a freezing mixture as cold as possible while he ran warm air over it. Because of his elaborate design, Drebbel’s invention worked and he invented the first “air conditioning unit” of his time. However, Drebbel’s invention was never documented and he was never given credit.…

Because the ice was expensive and refrigeration had not been invented, ice cream was considered a treat for the wealthy communities. In the 19th century, development of ice harvesting and the insulated icehouse made ice more accessible to the general public. In the early 20th century , electric power and mechanical refrigeration were brought by the industrialization that improved production. Nowadays ice-cream also offered by the upscale restaurant on their dessert lists.…
