October 16, 2012 Post 1- Proposal -What do you think you would do in a time of quick thinking when it comes to thinking about love? Would you run in fear of being wrong or would you stick around to find out what would happen next? The story I’m writing about is called Guardian of Yosemite. It’s a Native American folktale about Tisayac, the guardian spirit, falling deeply in love with Tutokanula, a handsome man in the village. I chose this article because it is a story about how in a single moment thinking about love, we can either make the wrong decision that can ruin our lives and the lives of people around us or make the right decision and live happily until the end. My opinion on the story is that I don’t think that …show more content…
Since she has gone missing from Tutokanula, he spent many days looking her, but no luck has prevailed for the chief, and since he was gone for so long, the people of his tribe, and he, have left and the land has become unbearable. “When Tisayac returned again to her valley, she was horrified to find it barren and her people gone. When she learned that Tutokanula had forgotten his people, had left them to fend for themselves without the benefit of his great wisdom, and had spent many days and nights searching and longing for her, she cried out in despair. Kneeling upon a mighty dome of rock, Tisayac prayed with all her heart” to the Great Spirit to restore the land to the way it was before she and Tutokanula had left. (Schlosser). The definition also says that they are sometimes made up to explain natural occurrences like erosion, or a drastic change in season, so the sudden, unseen change in the layout of the land would explain why it manifested the story about the Guardian of Yosemite. There is very few points of evidence but the few could possibly make this story plausible. Some say that to this day you can still see the carving of Tutokanula on the entrance of the Yosemite Valley. Another point of evidence is that “occasionally, it is said, just as the last rays of the sun creep over the crest of the Half Dome, Tisayac comes back, wreathed in a cloud, to gaze once more into the valley she loved so well and to make sure that the children of [Yosemite] still live in peace and plenty.”
