To start, Guatemala’s capital is Guatemala City and it is perched in the southern central region of the country. There are many markets in the streets and roads, where textiles and artifacts are handmade and sold. Another city is Puerto San Jose located on the Pacific coast. The team has made appearances in the Olympic games in 1968, 1976, and 1988. Unfortunately, the Football team of Guatemala has never for the World cup,although in 2006 they came very close too. The team jersey’s are light blue and white like the flag of Guatemala. The team was founded in 1919 by Ivan Sopegno. Mountain biking is also a common sport down and is done competitively through races and fundraisers. Races or just casual rides are usually dine in the surreal and calming mountains of Guatemala or near the coast. Not only because it holds the Mayan ruins but also the colorful modern day structure. One place of interest would be Livingston which is near the Caribbean coast and can only be reached by ferry. Think of all the amazing sereny possible to observe. There are great opportunities from regional dancing and all the city has to offer. There is great cuisine as well as scenery. Another interesting place to visit in Guatemala would be the Chichicastenango market two to three hours southwest of Guatemala City. Where you will find a diverse and abundant amount of textiles, fruit, souvenirs, pottery and flowers in the Guatemala district of El Quiche. Located in this district is the Church of Santo Tomas next to the Chichicastenango market. The church is four hundred years old and was built on top of steps from an old Maya civilization. Visiting here would be literally stepping into the past. There is eighteen steps leading to the entrance, the steps stand for one month of Maya calendar. Their rituals of the church include burning incense and occasionally offering sacrifice to their gods. The last place of interest is El mirador which holds ruins of the great Mayan empire that date back to the sixth BC when the Mayans were flourishing with power . Here the experience is once in a lifetime and is a beautiful piece of this country. The Mayan descendants are still followers of the religion and beliefs. Festivals celebrating these
