While there have been over 25 mass public shootings from 2009 to 2014, overall violent crime and gun crime in the U.S. has dropped since the early 1990s, even though the number of firearms has increased by about 10 million every year. (Time) Gun control laws do not discourage crime; gun ownership discourages crime. ”States with the largest increases in gun ownership also have the largest drops in violent crime”(John R.Lott,Jr.). In 2014 a Pew Surveyed showed 57% of people believe that owning a gun protects them from being victimized. Guns don't kill people, people kill people. “In New York and New Jersey ,which have some of the strictest laws in the country, more than two-thirds of guns tied to criminal activity were traced to out-of-state purchases in 2014(New York Times).”Stricter gun control laws or restrictions do not stop purchasing firearms or criminal activity. More gun control laws do not need to be established, more education and gun safety should be enforced to prevent less accidental injuries and deaths.
