Gun control generally is considered laws or policies that regulate the manufacture, sale, transfer, possession, modification, and use of firearms. High rates of homicides by way of firearms is the main reason why government officials are pushing for harder gun control measures. When you see news reports of school shootings such as Sandy Hook or Columbine, or the ridiculously number of high homicides by firearms, one can see why Congressional and government leaders are trying enact policies that limit gun control throughout the United States. States have various restrictions on the purchase, transportation, and possession of specific firearms. Federal law has made certain types of arms subject to special licenses and others illegal outright. Firearms that are illegal under Federal law cannot be legal under State law. Unfortunately, federal officials can’t come up with any uniform federal laws regarding gun control and therefore it falls on the states. Basically federal officials give an unfunded mandate for states to enact gun control measures. Congressional leaders with this mandate won’t give any money to fund these new measures throughout each state.…
The role guns play in our society has long been a controversial topic for the past few years in the united states. There are those who believe that guns do not belong in the hands of citizens and there are those who believe that guns are the foundation that protects our rights and liberties stated in the Constitution. There are too many leading factors as to why there should not be any stricter gun control laws. Some of these factors are that they go against our fundamental rights of self defense, give too much power to the government, and could potentially increase crime rates in the united states.…
Gun control is one of the most debatable topics in present day. Gun control refers to laws or policies that regulate the manufacture, sale, transfer, possession, modification, or use of firearms. These firearms include handguns, machine guns, rifles etc. People use these weapons for multiple reasons. Some use it for sport, for example: hunting or practicing at the gun range. Others buy it for protection while others use it for violence. Having a firearm requires responsibility. The person that wields a gun is responsible for his safety or others. They are also responsible for using a weapon against someone. According to procon.org, ''The United States has 88.8 guns per 100 people, or about 270,000,000 guns, which is the highest total and…
Gun control is a big factor that contributes to mass shootings, but there are other important factors, as well. These mass shootings are a serious issue in America and as a country we need to modify our current gun control laws, limit the amount of opioids sold, and create laws to restrict people with mental illnesses and psychiatric disorders from purchasing guns. If our country modifies the state of this situation, the United…
Gun Control Gun Control is a broad term that covers any sort of restriction on what kind of firearms can be sold and bought, who can possess or sell them, where and how they can be stored or carried, what duties a seller has to vet a buyer, and what obligations both the buyer and the seller have to report transactions to the government. This law is basically made for white American men, like most laws are. According to Gunsfreedom.com, “The Federal government started its gun control policies in response to the waging wars of the gangs in 1934 with the National Firearms Act of 1934.…
The debate over the restrictions of gun control is centered on the Second Amendment to the Constitution, which gives people the right to bear arms. Gun control supporters believe that this explicit right does not extend to ownership of military-style firearms. For example, groups like the National Rifle Association argue that gun control infringes on the constitutional rights of law-abiding citizens. Gun control is an on-going debate because each year more people are killed by the use of guns. However, guns are not the result in the number of homicides each year, the problems rests with the irresponsible gun users. Gun Control would do nothing but harm America because guns offer protection and security…
Gun control has sparked quite a controversy over the years. Some people believe that having strict gun control is the only way to fix the problems. While others, including myself, believe it is more a problem with the person that is behind the trigger. There has been laws about gun control as early as 1934. as citizens, we need to ask ourselves if having gun control will solve all the issues at hand. With both arguments, there is facts to support. I believe that gun control will not have the ability to make all the problems go away, there needs to be more done.…
What is gun control? Gun control is when the government puts rules and regulations on where one can bring guns. Governments also limit the amount of guns one owns. Guns are a way to protect our families, stop criminals, and a way to hunt to provide food for families. Some people abuse guns and bring harm to others which is horrible. There should not be a law on gun control. This law restricts those who own them to protect themselves and restricts them from having a firearm. Keeping guns in the United States is the best option for America.…
It has been a proven fact that the states with stricter gun control have increased the crime rate by a lot. That is happening because some people still have guns and the government are disarming everybody else which makes it easier to rob store gas stations and banks. “Although guns killed 35,957 people in 1995 the guns didn’t pull the trigger people did.”(Schmittroth 3) Most of those killings were from having gun control. If we got rid of gun control it would reduce the amount of crimes that go on in the United States. Most of the guns in the United States protect lives more than they take lives. But that only happens when there is no gun control. And handguns are perfect for women to keep in there purse to have for self-defense. But the government is trying to pass gun control which will leave most of the women defenseless. Which bad thing is that approximately 200,000 women in the United States use guns to protect themselves from sexual crimes every single year. And guns prevent more injures than they…
Gun Control is when you keep firearms of any type, including handguns, High power rifles and even low caliber hunting rifles such as a .22 long rifle away from people. Many people think that gun control is the right way to go because they think keeping guns away from people will lower the death rate of people by guns. Also, just whenever people hear the word gun, the thoughts of violence and negativity pop into the heads of many people, myself included, think gun control is wrong because we know that it is not necessary, since we know that guns were not involved in a large percentage of deaths caused each year. While many other people disagree and think that a law will keep guns out of people's hands and keep them safer. All laws do is keep…
Thomas Jefferson one of our founding fathers once said that “Laws that forbid the carrying of arms only disarm those who are neither inclined or determined to commit crimes”. Gun control laws have been around since the 1800’s ,with the fist law coming into play in 1870.That first law about firearms stated that you would need a license if you wished to carry your firearms outside of your own home and property. Then in the 1900’s a law passed to help insure the safety of other. That law passed in 1903 and it stated that firearms could not be sold to the drunken or the mentally insane and unstable. Evidence has proven that more gun control laws would not be beneficial to the public and would not help reduce the amount of violent crimes being committed with guns.…
Gun Control is a set of laws or policies that limits the making, sales, trade, possession, modification, and use of guns. Gun control first became an issue in 1934 with wars of gangs. Because of this the first gun control act was passed. The national firearm act of 1934, this act is a long series of measures trying to stop the spread of increasingly destructive firearms in gang violence. Gang violence is a big cause of gun control now. Whats to supposed to help or stop the use of guns in gangs are not working at all. This act was not really enforced enough, Gangs then and today use gun illegally as if a law was never made. Theres also been various number of school shootings that has a huge impact on others. Therefor Gun control is a huge issue…
Gun control won't stop crimes or shootings.‘’It is important for some to realize that infringing on the people's right to bear arms will not deter or stop crimes.’’ ‘’Guns are only a tool used in killing people and assisting in crimes. The real issue comes down to individuals that have guns should not. Criminals and their actions are responsible for crimes that involve guns’’ (online) www.arc.national.edu(Dustin M.…
How many people do not fear being attacked by someone with a gun? The truth is that most people do share a fear of guns. This is the result of the lack of control over the possession of a gun. Anyone can get their hands on a gun no matter what they intend to use it for. Almost 30,000 people die each year in a gun related incident (Soyer 1). People are not careful enough in deciding where they place their weapon or how they use it. Because of its poor gun control system, America is in the top five in the world in death rate by guns. Someone who has a gun has complete control over a person without one, which leads to an increase in burglaries, rapes, and also in the number of gangs. Ronald Reagan once said, "As long as there are guns, the individual that wants a gun for a crime is going to have one and going to get it" (Gun 2). When put in the wrong hands, a gun can be a killing machine as demonstrated in many events in the world today. Although many people feel that they have a right to own a gun, they have lost that right because of many gun-related crimes that results in thousands of deaths and injuries each year.…
