Gun Violence Effects On The Youth
Today, the use of guns by teens has become the norm. There should never be a time when it is okay for any child to carry a weapon for the means of committing a violent act. Too many young lives will never have the chance to reach full potential. As a nation, this is unacceptable and innocent lives are lost daily. Ending teen violence should be at the top of priorities of all people from the public sector to even those just in the private sector. The youth of today are our future of tomorrow, finding a resolution to teen gun violence would eliminate the grief of a family from losing a child. Communities would find better ways to resolve what potentially are misunderstandings between the youth. Building the tools for the thought process for problem solving would come to the forefront instead of the quickness of a trigger. …show more content…
The Nation must address the illegal fire arm sells which in turn allows our youth the opportunities to get these weapons into their possession. Society and communities must become more involved hands on with our children and youth of today. The demand to make firearms all smart guns could assist in reducing the number of teens from being the perpetrator violence with a gun or another victim that becomes a part of statistics a nation sits around and talks about. Now is the time for smart guns manufacturing, and a clamp down on the National Rifles Association if they don’t want to join the fight against gun

I know four people that own pistols and some of their relatives own assault rifles. “Among 38 states studied, 5.7% of high school students from states with stricter laws carried a gun in the past 30 days. In states with weaker laws, 7.3% of students carried a gun in that time.” Teens cannot own any sort of weapons let alone firearms. Teens haven’t grown up into who they were supposed to be and some of them are extremely violent (but so are some adults.) Having stricter gun laws will help to lower the percentage of kids and teenagers who “own” weapons to decrease because some adults would be turned off to buying a firearm which would not allow their kids to get a hold of…

It has always proven true that dealing with the root of a problem is the most effective way possible. When examining and addressing gun violence, it is pertinent to focus on the guns themselves and those who own them. Gun violence has been a major issue in the world for quite some time. The most catastrophic examples are mass shootings that devastate numerous families and citizens nationwide. Although these events are leaving a scar in America and around the world, there are not many current implementations that are addressing these issues.…

America is widely known for having a fascination with violence and is a “gun – happy” country. However, this love for firearms has led to tragedies untold and horrifying truths about the mental state of individuals as revealed in the Columbine School shooting incident. Major and minor causes collectively led up to this event and bring up the question of whether or not this tragedy could have been prevented. The NRA play a key part in the debate over gun control, and parents play a vital role in instilling future generations with respect for handguns and being involved in their lives. Though there is room to consider a grey area guns continue to be the instruments used to sow sorrow resulting…

Gun violence has impacted so many communities across the country. Gun violence is one of the top ten causes of death in the United States. During the past decade in America more than 100,000 people have been killed due to gun violence. Close to half a million more people have fallen victim to assaults, robberies, mass shootings and other crimes that involved a gun. These tragedies were committed by criminals who should’ve never had access to a gun in the first place. In order to reduce gun violence we need to start by reforming legislation, improving the mental and physical health of citizens in need, efficient and effective background checks including how and what is reported, keeping track of what guns are sold, lost, or stolen and smart and effective enforcement of our gun laws.…

The key element to note when focusing on gun policy, per both law and public opinion, children and youth are a special case. This puts the youth and kids at great harm, and are left wife open to the gun violence. We should be able to create awareness in the society about the huge negative impacts of gun violence in the streets and at the homes in America. Many families do not keep their guns in safe places that children couldn’t reach. For example, in South Carolina a 2-year-old shot his grandmother in the back while she was riding in the back seat of the car the child found the gun in the back of the front seat and shot his grandmother. Since children don’t know the concept of killing and harming people they have injured and killed many people, even children have killed their own parents and siblings. For example, a child shot his father in an event where many people were present. These kinds of incidents have happened many times because the parents didn't pay attention to the consequences of keeping guns. Not keeping guns in a safe place where children can't reach can result in familie’s own…

    Smart Guns Research Paper

However, I believe smart guns should be sold on the market because smart guns can be safer than regular guns. This is because smart guns have many ways for detecting the owner of the gun “for instance by recognizing the fingerprint, the grip or a RFID chip – and stop working if held by the wrong hands,” according to Aliana Selyukh. There were 3,260 teens and children killed or injured this year alone (Gun Violence Archive). According to Healy, Bosman, Blinder, and Turkewitz, Sha’Quille Kornegay, a two-year-old, accidentally killed herself after discovering a “9-millimeter handgun” her father “kept under his pillow” at times. In Kornegay’s death could have been prevented if only her father’s gun was a smart gun. If it was a smart gun that Kornegay would have grabbed, the gun wouldn’t have shot because the gun wouldn’t have recognized her since it was her father’s gun. Accidents such as the one Kornegay suffered can be prevented by a smart gun because of the smart technology which is why I think smart guns should be sold on the market. Smart guns can not only make people feel safer but can also prevent many accidental deaths. If there was even some chance of minimizing accidental deaths and making our country a safer place, it would be better to give smart guns a chance rather than not doing so and never finding out if America could…

Recent events such as the, Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, the Aurora Movie Theater shooting and the Chardon High School shooting have all raised awareness for gun control. Instead of focusing on the amount of deaths cause by gun control, we should focus on the real problem which is violence in the U.S. According to lafa.org,”” Criminologists cite FBI statistics that teenagers committed twice as many assaults without a weapon”. This explains how violence is a greater issue rather then trying to restrict rights given to us by the 2nd Amendment. Overall, violence should be a problem burdened on people rather then inanimate…

In the United States of America, on average 100,000 people are shot or killed with a gun each year (Stricter Gun Regulations, 2013). That enormous number includes parents, siblings, family, friends and neighbors. In modern American culture many people have the incorrect view that guns are toys because they are so prevalent in our society. From childhood, Americans are aware of guns because they are on television, in movies and videogames, and used as “play weapons”. However, guns are not toys. The problem of gun violence needs to come under stricter gun control laws and the American people need to be more educated on the proper and safe use of guns so that these avoidable deaths annually can be prevented.…

    Causes Of Gun Violence

Our countries leaders and lawmakers must examine the NRA’s impact on our gun laws and a determination should be made to who do these laws really benefit. Do the laws ultimately benefit the American People or the NRA and its bottom line business. There should be fair laws that benefit both the NRA and the American People. I propose that the NRA must no longer have an impact on gun laws and reform. The Federal Government, at the very least, should have complete oversight of the manufacturing, distribution, tracking of all guns. Also, any modification to any firearm, rifle or handgun, should be made illegal followed by extremely harsh punishments aimed at deterrence. All Federal gun laws should also supersede all state laws. We must also make huge strides and attempts to figure out exactly how many guns are in our population because a plus or minus estimate of 100 million is just not good enough. We must have an accurate count of the number of guns if we look to accurately account for and track those guns. The Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms department of the Federal Government should drop the firearms and firearms should have its own entity charged with complete jurisdiction and oversight of all things firearms. And finally we must look at our black communities…
